Have you changed your fuel filter? When is the last time you changed your sparkplugs? Have you had any codes on the computer? Heres what I would do. First change your sparkplugs. This is a 4-6 hour job. You have to unbolt the cop(coil on plug assembly). After you change the plugs your truck will run rough. Drive it around the block then back to your house. It will take 3-5 restarts before your truck quits running rough. Reason for this is because your computer is trying to "relearn" the firing order. I have done this several times so i know what i am talking about. You can even look it up. Your 2000 expedition is a dang good truck with a great engine. After your computer relearns the firing order then the rough idle will be gone. Then I would take it out on the freeway and run it hard for 5-10 miles. If you experience a miss or two then that means you need a new cop(s). Get a code reader and it will tell you which cop is bad. Cops are expensive. I bought 6 new ones on ebay for $40. If you buy from autozone or ford dealer then you are looking at about 80-100 bucks a piece. Tell me if this helps. Ford makes a good truck and the expedition is a great truck. Mine is a 2000 expedition also. I have 248,000 miles on it and running strong with no burning oil. Good luck.
Hi Gina.... Rough idle could be a number of things. The easiest and cheapest thing you could do is to replace the fuel filter. Usually they will run just a few bucks at the local auto store. If that doesn't do the trick, try to see if your car is smoking at all and try to determine if it is blue, black, or white smoke. Usually a blue smoke is oil, black is usually fuel richness, and white is coolant. White and blue are the most serious. If you are just burning extra fuel, you might need a tuneup consisting of new sparkplugs, maybe new sparkplug wires, new distributer cap, and distributor rotor. This might be a good time the change the oil and oil filter as well as check the other fluids such as transmission, coolant, and brake. Joe
If it ran good before the tuneup then you may have crossed a plug wire, or bad gap or wrong gap on sparkplugs, check the firing order fisrt, hope this helps.
Sounds like you need a basic tuneup. Plugs and wires to start with. Make sure the plugs are properly gapped, and i would go with the OEM wires. The part house style tend to not make a good connection. Also when changing the the plugs and wires, if any oil is present on the wire that could also lead to a misfire. Change valve cover gasket as necessary.

when was the last time you had a good tuneup sparkplugs,wires if needed and fuel filter and replace the drive belt and also make sure all of the vaccum lines are on and the one behind the throttle body
