For starters you need to find out which wheel is causing the fault. secondly some wheel speed sensors are built in to the wheel hub assembly, to identify what style you have depending if its in the front or rear.
look behind the wheel where the CV axle goes into the hub , the wire for the speed sensor will either go into a black fitting with 2 torx screws OR go directly into the hub. If the wire goes directly into the hub you will need to replace the entire Wheel Hub Assembly. if the wire goes into a fitting style you can just replace the sensor itself.

Hope this helps.

Sound like vechicle speed sensor.when it goes bad.it will effect speedometer reading and cause transmission shifting problems.besure to check the wire connector and sensor. make sure every thing looks okay before buying another one.

1992 Subaru legacy wagon will not shift up from first gear. it is an AT.

run the fault but all you describe is operated from the VSS sensor ( vehicle speed sensor)
it tells the cruise control the vehicle speed , tells the TCM the vehicle speed so that ratios can be changed, activates the speedo, and will report with a check engine light to report a transmission problem
run the fault codes first

My SLK 280 2006 is showing the Check engine light ON and the gear not changing neither by automatic drive or tiptronic drive. checking by computer fault log it shows first the O2 sensor malfunctioning. I...

replace the speed sensor as it controls the shifting of the transmission. When replacing any units the fault s will continue to reappear unless you have the CPU reset by a fault code reader.

You have a transmission fault, you need to have the Transmission control module scanned for the fault code that is in memory.

Check your transmission control relay, this would appear to be the fault in your system.

Engine light came on, doesn't up-shift

The transmission is in limp in mode. The check engine light is on because the transmission controller told the engine controller to turn it on. You will have to get the fault codes checked to diagnose the problem. Expect to find a P0700 code in the engine controller. Thats the code for a transmission fault in the trans controller. It could be as simple as an input speed sensor or as complexed as an internal failure. Either way have the transmission fault codes checked for a proper diagnosis.
