Rear wheels are locked up and it will not roll. The Brake leaver is locked up will not adjust. it seems as though the brake in the rear end is locked up or the rear end is locked up.

could be that emergency is stuck on, sometimes pulling of the cables will loosen them up. If you are trying to adjust the brakes, are you sure you are backing them off and not just tightening them more? Sometimes a bad rubber hose can break down and maintain the pressure on the brake cylinders, locking them up. I would remove the wheels and back off the adjusters and free up the emergency to get the drums off. Once brake adjustment problems are eliminated to can work at figuring out if the rearend itself is broken/locked up.

How do I release a stuck on emergency park brake?

hello,
if your e-brake is stuck then you could look at the unit on the side and there should be a small lever that you can pull to release the brakes if the cable is not working, the cables themselves could be frozen? or something mechanical inside the drums or calipers in the rear that could be stuck and not moving. there is a possibility that the master cylinder is at fault, but rare. you can open the rear wheel bleed valves and see if the vehicle can move? if so, then check the rubber lines to the wheels? to be bad

86 honda wagovan right rear wheel locked up

Not sure about the advice above...If your experiencing a rear wheel locking up, I've seen where the emergency brake cable is not releasing and is stuck. Best bet is to have someone operate the E-brake while you watch the cable underneath the car on the right side. If you don't see the cable retracting, clamp a pair of vice grips tightly onto the cable (away from where it could retract into the sheath) and tap the vice grips "away" from the wheel. This will "persuade" the cable to retract, therefore releasing the emergency brake. If that's it, don't use the emergency brake until you either lube it real well or replace it. Good luck!

88 chevy C1500 dash brakelight flashing rear wheels lockup then release.

The brakelight fuse and the switch on the pedal is only for the brake lights. It should have no effect on the dash brake light. That light is to alert you that a problem exists in your braking system, not the brake lights. I think you will have to pull off the rear drums and investigate why they are locking up. Check for a leaking brake wheel cylinder that may have contaminated the brake shoes, causing them to grab and lock up. Are the shoes in good shape? Also, check the operation of the emergency brake. Maybe it is not releasing fully. The emergency brake can be adjusted on the cables somewhere underneath the truck, probably at the equalizer (where the cable for the emergency brake splits to both sides of the truck). The adjusting nut will have a lock nut tight against it to hold the adjustment. Loosen the lock nut, then turn the adjusting nut one way to loosen the cable, and the other way to tighten up the cable. You might want to loosen it up and see if that has any effect, and then tighten it once you have fixed the problem. The adjustment would be about right when the emergency brake handle or pedal locks up the rear brakes when it is depressed about halfway to nearly fully depressed.
Hope this helps you out, and good luck.

1998 honda civic lx drivers side rear emergency brake cable spring is very loose

  1. Remove the screw covers, screws and parking brake trim cover.
  2. Turn the adjuster as needed to attain the proper adjustment.

Make sure the brakes do not drag when the parking brake lever is released.
  1. Reinstall the trim cover.
  2. Depress the pedal 2 notches.
  3. Tighten the adjusting nut at the pedal assembly until the rear brakes just begin to drag when rotated.
  4. Release the parking brake lever and check that the wheels do not drag when turned. The parking brake should engage in 3-5 notches when a force of 66 lbs. (294 Nm) is applied to the parking brake pedal.
  5. Lower the vehicle

Drivers side rear wheel wont budge even when driven. How can it be freed up?

Sounds like the emergency brake is frozen. You will have to remove the tire and brake drum to see what is going on. The drum will probably be stuck on due to the problem you are having. You will have to back off the star wheel adjuster to free up the brake shoes and/or release a stuck emergency brake cable. This will take more than a novice so you will probably need to get help. Good luck :O)

The emergence brake's reslease to our 2001 jimmy won't release how can we do it ourselves

Usually, the heavy cables that go to each rear wheel and operate the emergency brakes get soaked with water over the years and become rusted so that the inner cable ceases to move or becomes stuck with the brakes full on. Replace these cables to restore operation and adjust them so that braking action starts when the pedal is depressed about 1/2 way down.

2000 pontiac emergency brake stuck. how do i

Are you in a Northern Climate were road salt is used during winter? The emergency brake problems I have encountered tend to be due to rust and corrosion accumulating on the wires and metal pivot points that operate the brake via the emergency handle on the center console.

Get underneath the car (chock the wheels---ALL FOUR! with bricks or large chunks of wood---be sure the car is in PARK!) and find the wire that connects to the handle of the brake---follow it to the rear brakes, and you will see a split where it goes to the L and R sides via a sliding clasp of steel that looks like a C, and has wires running over the top, and to each rear brake.

At this point, grab the wire on one side of it and PULL HARD several times, slack between pulls. Do this for each side---that should release the assembly, and the shoes from holding the drum.

After you have done this, lubricate the pivot points and the wire connection to the brake handle with TRI-FLOW (NOT WD-40)or another teflon based lubricant.

98 Lincoln TC,Cold starts fine ,runs good until warm, then shuts off. No codes,Cranks ok, have spark, PATS ok. No fuel pressure, cant hear fuel pump prime,New Fuel relay. jumped fuel pump - works. I do not hear fuel pump prime up, do not have fuel gauge, but pressing on valve in fuel rail- no pressurized fuel. Fuel regulator seems ok, not leaking / vacuum line dry as a bone. If I let it set for 15 min , it will start up again, but for a few minutes then dies out. If I let it set overnight it starts up perfectly and runs until operating temp is reached then stalls/stumbles, and shuts down. Vacuum is good while cranking, even with no start, Checked Inertia switch in trunk, it is not tripped. I have seen Ford TSB summaries' that mention issues like this , but I am not able to see to description. A point to add, the MAF sensor was cleaned, then I decided to replace it and did not make a difference. I do not have any stored codes, and the PATS is working fine, typical 2 second flash from and once key is inserted a 3 second steady light, then disappears. I have seen the TSB mentioning C103 Connector, it looks fine, I swapped out fuel pump relay with ac relay, still no difference.mention of wires around battery, do not know where to start. in dash service engine light and odometer is normal, seen other posts the say they only have lines, but mine is ok. the start of all of this , I washed engine with regular garden hose, ( not using pressure washer).also in the mean time, rear window defroster stopped working as well, can not say for same reason, but a mention. My problem started after washing engine. this is one of four Panther platform vehicles I owned with exact 4.6l w code engine, which I rinced down before. The only sensor I can think of is Oil pressure , or a corroded wire
