Question about 1998 Jeep Cherokee
I just did this to my '96 G.C. Look for a black plastic screw off cap (looks like a big tire inflation valve cap) make sure you are on the low pressure side. Buy an adapter that will screw onto a refrigerant can and then screw the hose that came with the adapter onto that uncapped valve. Do the filling while the engine is running at idle speed and have a your A/C turned on to max cooling. If you feel the A/C working, keep looking at the gauge on your new adapter, when it is in the green, you are good to go.If the A/C doesn't work the next day, then it's time to either take it to a good A/C shop or look for other obvious leaks. They have a leak detector on the market, probably pretty expensive. Good Luck!!

If you look on the back of the compressor, there should be an S and P (or H) stamped into it below line positions...you want to charge on the "s" side. BUT, be aware that it is not wise to do this unless the problem is that it's not especially cool and in need of just a squirt of freon...otherwise you are wasting your time and money.
