Have you checked the fluid level? May need transmission service due to plugged fluid intake filter, or badly worn third gear clutch.

Take it in & have it scanned, may only be a faulty solenoid or even brake switch may cause code & symptoms. Sooner you get it in, the cheaper it will probably be to repair it

That's only 17 or 18 MPG/U.S. Gal. Not very good for a Neon. When was engine serviced last, as in air filter, oil filter , oil change, and perhaps a scan for any trouble codes? What type of driving conditions?

The radiator fans do not start

I would start by checking the temp. sensor should be near the upper radiator hose where it comes out of the engine block, after that you should have a fan relay on a fuse panel possibly under the hood or dash on driver side.

This sounds like a ignition module problem or maybe the crank sensor.

If you find one that has a 4-speed and the same engine size, then they will fit. What you need to watch for is that you get the correct gear ratio tranny to keep your car operating properly. I only know one way to know for sure and that is a number stamped just above the pan rail on the bottom oil pan. It will be long and have some letters at the start of it. You may be able to get that to a dealership and have them look it up. If the donor transmission is still in the car then the vehicle id number should tell you what ratio the trans is when it's looked up. That is how it's done with the US cars, it may vary a bit with the UK ones, but I am not sure.

V Reg Chrysler (auto). My car is revving too much and it doesn't always change up to the fourth gear. Could it be that I need to change the air filter or is it something more serious ie. I need to get a...

Have the vehicle scanned for trouble codes first. It is possible that one of the speed sensors mounted on the outside of the trans is not working properly.A thorough diagnosis is in order before pronouncing the trans bad or internally damaged,as it could cost upwards of $3000.
