To keep it simple first, try replacing the fuel filter. They have a average life of around 30,000 to 40,000 miles or one year. you can pick one up at Auto Zone and they can give you the step by step instructions to get the job done with common tools and you can also have the car scanned there for any DTC codes and it's free of charge. Keep me posted, be glad to help you getting your car running 100% again.

I had the same problem on my daughter's '94 Jetta 2.0 automatic. The car would just stop running intermitently, which was very scary for my kid (think "dead car, busy freeways"). Took some real time to figure it out. After replacing the fuel pressure regulator, spark plugs, wires, rotor, distributor cap and fuel filter, the problem still persisted. Not fun.

Simple solution: Replaced the ECU relay and fixed the problem. It's the #3 relay position on the fusebox (upper row of relays above the fuses, third from the left; typically numbered "30", "109" or "288"). These relays fail intermittingly: get hot, fail, cool down and work again until they fail again.

This untimely info likey doesn't help this poor guy from two years ago, but I hope it helps others who find this post. It would have saved me some real time and frustration. Good luck!

I have 1998 vw cabrio just did a tune up runs great in idle put in drive car dies at 20mph can get car to 45 mph but very slowly why?

sounds like either the spark plugs weren't gapped right or the wires are in the wrong locations.
Google search the firing order and check the wires/loactions first, then if they are correct, have a look at the spark plug gaps.

2001 vw Cabrio stalled and motor would not turn over. Battery was good

Hello Tammy, Can you tell me a little history about the car before it stalled, such as you were driving and it stalled or was it sitting idling before it stalled. And something to check in the meantime is make sure the oil level is correct. VW, has a lot of issues with oiling. Thanks and look forward to hearing from you. Allen

you don't have a choke.
Could be the linkage hanging up for sure.
Have it checked by a pro ASAP.
Although it's kinda easy to replace, its easy to go wrong if you don't know what you are doing and safety should always come first.

K1500 quits, but will restart

recheck that you have the spark plug wires in the correct order and you might have to fashion some kind of seal on that wire... perhaps silicone caulking to keep it from arcing... clean the connection first.
