Vehicle cranks but will not start no fire

Common Fox Mustang issue related to this condition would be a faulty coil, ignition connection under steering wheel melted, faulty or the TFI Module on the Dizzy. I would start with the TFI 9 times out of 10 this is the culprit. Be sure to replce it with a motorcraft as Ive had bad experinces with aftermarket TFI modules right out of the box. I've attached a photo of the TFI module below. Good Luck Ryan MN

How do I repalce ignition module on 1991 F150 inline 6 cylinder 2 wheel drive

  1. Remove the distributor cap from the distributor, and set it aside (spark plug wires still connected).
  2. Disconnect the harness connector.
  3. Remove the distributor.
  4. Remove the TFI module retaining screws.
  5. To disengage the TFI module's terminals from the distributor base connector, pull the right side of the module down the distributor mounting flange and then back up. Carefully pull the module toward the flange and away from the distributor.
  6. Coat the TFI module baseplate with a thin layer of silicone grease (FD7AZ-19A331-A or its equivalent).
  7. Place the TFI module on the distributor base mounting flange. Position the module assembly toward the distributor bowl and carefully engage the distributor connector pins. Install and torque the two TFI module retaining screws to 9-16 inch lbs.
  8. Install the distributor assembly.
  9. Install the distributor cap and check the engine timing.

Turns over , gas to carb but no spark? replaced coil. 1982 Ford 2.3 liter engine

1980's Fords were notorious for the "Thick Film Ignition" (TFI) modules going bad. They were so bad in fact, that there was a class-action law suit filed against Ford for this issue. If you are sure that your distributor cap, rotor and wires are in good condition, then I would try replacing the TFI module. It is screwed to the side of the distributor. A special socket tool can be purchaced at your local parts supplier for this purpose. The screws go way inside the body of the TFI module and standard sockets will not fit into the hole far enough to get onto the head of the screw. It is not real expensive. You are looking at maybe less than $80 for the TFI module and the tool to install it with.

87 ranger wont spark....New coil, and pickup coil

Check to see if the rotor button is turning, that will tell you if the timing belt is broke or not, also, the ignition module tfi module is most likely the problem if the timing belt is not broke.

My '90 taurus quit running and won't start. it cranks, but won't fire. The battery is fine. my neighbor said something about a module? what and where is it and how do I test it?

He's talking about the TFI module located plugged on the bottom of the distributor. I would listen for the fuel pump if it is kicking on or not. If you turn the key forward don't start the car listen for fuel pump to kick on. If it's not kicking on then you have a bad fuel pump. Fuel pressure can be checked with a fuel guage on fuel rail pressure should read 30psi. TFI module can be check if you buy the scan tool for it. In the late 80's to early 90's the TFI module's would get hot and fail. Always keep and extra TFI module with you if that's the problem. Check for fuel first before doing the TFI module.

Its not to hard..part is about $ 50
  1. Remove the distributor cap from the distributor, and set it aside (spark plug wires still connected).
  2. Disconnect the harness connector.
  3. Remove the distributor.
  4. Remove the TFI module retaining screws.
WARNING Step 5 must be followed EXACTLY; failure to do so will result in damage to the distributor module connector pins.

  2. Coat the TFI module baseplate with a thin layer of silicone grease (FD7AZ-19A331-A or its equivalent).

Rough idle will stall if not given gas

FORD USED A THICK FILM IGNITION ( MODULE ) " TFI " . IT SOMETIMES JUST GOES BAD AT ONCE AND THE CAR WONT START AT ALL. HOWEVER FOR THE STRANG TIMES IT WILL START AND ONCE THE HEAT OF THE ENGINE GETS TO THE POINT OF OVERHEATING THE "TFI" IT WILL MAKE THE IDLE RUFF/BAD THEN THE ENGINE STALLA UNTILL THE "TFI" COOLS DOWN THEN IT WILL START AGAIN. THE PART IS ABOUT 80 DOLLARS AND YOU WILL NEED A DEEPWALL 5.5mm SOCKET TO CHANGE IT. IT IS ON THE SIDE OF THE DISTRIBUTOR, YOU WILL NEED TO MARK THE DISTRIBUTOR ITSELF WITH A REFERENCE TO THE MOTOR THEN UNTIGHTEN THE 13mm BOLT THAT KEEPS THE DISTRIBUTOR TIGHT. TURN THE DISTRIBUTOR SO YOU CAN ACCESS THE BOLTS TO THE "TFI" ONCE YOU SWAP THE "TFI" ALIGN THE REFERENCE MARKS YOU MADE AND TIGHTEN THE DISTRIBUTOR BOLT.

ANOTHER QUICK TIP IS TO MAKE SURE YOU ARE MAINTAINING AT LEAST A MINIMUM OF 30PSI FUEL PRESSURE.
