Question about 1999 Cadillac DeVille

1 Answer

99 Deville rear air shocks not working.

I never ever hear the air pump motor run anymore. If you push down on the rear end of the car, the rear end just bounces up and down. If I load people in the back seat, the rear end sinks all the way down and will even bottom out. Are my rear air shocks no longer holding air because they're bad or is the air pump motor bad? Or does all this have something to do with the air leveling sensor?

This is an expensive repair sometimes and you may want to replace this system with inflatable air bags that fit inside the rear coil springs and then are inflated. I think they cost about $80.00 or $120.00 depending on the car.

Why do I hear a buzzing from trunk fuse box until my car idles down / 2002 Cadillac DeVille

That is the compressor for the rear air shocks. If you stop hearing this noise then something is wrong. It levels the car when running.

Need to locate the air pump that supplies the rear shocks.

The pump is back under the rear of car, but by now, the shocks are sure to be leaking, which causes the pump to run too much burning it up. Best fix is to replace rear shocks with coils and dump the self leveling feature, or prepare to pay big bucks to replace most components.

Air is on all the time

I assume you mean the air pump for the the rear air shocks. Somewhere in the airlines or fittings you'll find the leak.
Just follow from end to end. If need be, fix up a spray bottle of dishwashing liquid & water. Spray the air hose & fittings liberally, the detergent will produce bubbles at the problem area if you can't hear it leaking.

Rear air suspension doesn't inflate everytime vehicle is started

My Buick had this problem and we found the pump was worn out. It just would not blow up when trying to run. They wanted a lot of money to replace it and the shocks.so I bought a kit that the air line hooks underneath the license plate Now about once every three months I use my air compressor to pump it up. My old air shocks lost air all the time. My new air shocks stay blowed up for over three months.

I have a 1990 Cadillac Deville with the 4.5. I was curious if that car came with air suspension stock. I noticed a little compressor like thing right be hind the battery turn on when I was jacking it up....

The compressor will turn on when the rear air shocks are low. These shocks will begin to leak with age, and if new, can be damaged if you raise the rear end without disconnecting the battery. The shocks will fill with too much air and create a leak. If your motor runs continuously, you may need to replace the shocks. May also have a leak in the air hose going to the compressor. Check the fitting. Short fix would be to disconnect the power going to the compressor, but your ride will suffer.

Rear air ride is flat on 95 deville....what do i

the first thing is the fuses. i've seen many of these that the rear air shocks are bad but customer doesnt know and the pump runs until it burns out, after checking the fuses start the car and listen under the hood for the pump to turn on, if pump turns on then check shocks for leaks, also you would have to make sure the pump is producing air as it runs and the last thing is the level sensor located under the rear of car.

I have 94'crown vic with rear air ride suspension problems. The back end won't rise. Any help is appreciated.

Start by checking the fuses for the air compressor for the rear suspension. these will be listed in your owners manual. Failing this it could be the compressor motor or wiring to the motor, unless you can hear the compressor working. If the compressor is running but not adjusting the back of the car then you have an air leak in one of the shocks or air lines.
if you find it is a fuse, also listen for the compressor motor running and an air leak, if the system is running constantly to make up for a leak , that may be what blew the fuse.

Hope this helps

My 98 Cadillac DeVille rear air suspension system works great UNTIL I load weighted luggage in trunk and passengers in back seat. I then drive around for 15 to 45 minutes and thats when the rear end of the...

Common problem on all air suspension vehicles. It could be that there is a hairline crack in one of the shock bladders or that the pump is just too weak to pump up to it's intended pressure, a sensor or solenoid could also be bad.

Whenever I run into this problem I order a spring conversion kit for that vehicle, it is usually not worth spending $3000+ to repair the suspension.

www.Strutmasters.com sells the best kits, $327.00 for the rear. It also comes with a resistor so that your suspension light is not on.
