The rear gate is the rear door at the back of the vehicle..Open and shut it to make sure it is latched...Then wear safety glasses disconnect negative battery cable to clear codes ..reconnect then try to start it..You shouldn't have the code once gate is shut however disconnecting the battery will erase all codes...Also make sure both battery cables are tight....
The gate light on my 2002 Liberty was on for a long time and I researched on this site about it but ended up just hitting the trip meter button after starting up and that canceled it out. The other day my rear window wiper was not working and my security system had quit working also. Looking at the book in the fuse section I found that the rear window wiper is on it's own fuse, number 17 in my 2002. I took that fuse out and looked at it and it seamed good, no break or burn marks. I replaced the fuse anyway and low and behold the rear window wiper worked, the gate light went out, and the security system was working again. I could not find a fuse for the security system of the gate light.....they are all on the rear wiper fuse. Problem solved, hope this helps you, I found it purely by accident.
Open gate and find where the wiring enters the gate (bottom of door) pull back the rubber insulator and check for broken wires or wires touching each other.
Hello and welcome the problem is very simple to resolve first make sure you have battery power turn off vehicle open rear gate unlock doors go to rear gate and look at lock unlock again and push the Grey plastic lock trigger mechanism forward towards front glass close gate unlock again make sure lock is still in the position you just set it to and close glass it will the lock. Normally what happens in this situation was power was removed from your jeep and the rear gate was opened with no power running to electric lock so it stays in a set position you cannot lock the glass because there was no power in the electric lock I will lock once you reset it Hope this help. I usually spray guide tracks with a silicone spray. It works pretty well. Up north where I am, when sprayed on door seals it keeps doors from freezing closed as well!
