Question about Volvo 850

When my airconditioning is on and I step on the gas it soon goes off I think its a problem with the vacuum pump but idont know where the pump is located can you help? The car is a94 960 volvo sedan. Thanks Mike.

There are no vacuum pumps but what we called the vacuum bellows. There are 5 units located under the dashboard and all are fitted to the A/C box. Need to check all these bellows and all the hoses connected to them from the connectors at the firewall. However, before endulging into this area, check the valves in the engine bay at the firewall. There are 2 units connected between the vacuum hoses. The black side should be fitted toward the engine and the white toward the conneter at the firewall.

I think youre saying that the ac goes off ifs thats the case the freon may be low or you are accelerating too hard the ac compressor cycles on and off by design and if you need power when accel it will go off. hope this helps you

Car periodically dies and there is a gurgling sound when take gas cap off. Then either immediately or soon after the car starts. Put new fuel pump, gas cap and relay switch.

Maybe taking the gas cap off releases pressure on vacuum in the gas tank. I'd have to check your evap system. I'm just thinking out loud. Might be other issues?

Hard to pump gas at gas station clicks on an off

all stations, all pumps on all islands, really?
EVAP codes usually mean loose cap, 99% but the 1 percent
its just as it says, the EVAP is breached, or the test valves are bad.
the tests are long and hard, (vacuum tests or using pressure.
all this is covered in the FSM. every word every step, read it.
or read at, EVAP chapter, yes, a whole chapter full.

as for all stations trip too soon, fact.
that is the side hose breather on side of main filler neck pinches, (look at it) or clogged, (rare ,. how could it clog? kids stuff bs there?)

I changed the fuel pump,im getting gas to the fuel rail but none to the injectors

If gas is getting to the fuel rail, it is getting to injectors. If fuel pressure is good, probably the injector circuit is not working. With a test light you can check the injector circuit. Post back for further help. What year and make is the car?

This problem is out side the gas tank , has nothing to do with the fuel pump or fuel level sending unit inside the gas tank .DTC P0446 EVAP Vent Solenoid Valve Control System . Do you know anything about automotive evaporative emission system ?
Wells EVAP Training with Sgt Tech P0440 P0441 P0442 etc

This DTC tests the evaporative emission (EVAP) system for a restricted or blocked EVAP vent path. The control module commands the EVAP canister purge solenoid Open and the EVAP canister vent solenoid Closed. This allows vacuum to be applied to the EVAP system. Once a calibrated vacuum level has been reached, the control module commands the EVAP canister purge solenoid Closed and the EVAP canister vent solenoid Open. The control module monitors the fuel tank pressure (FTP) sensor for a decrease in vacuum. If the vacuum does not decrease to near 0 inches H2O in a calibrated time, this DTC sets.

1963 vw newly rebuilt engine, starts then dies at RPM acceleration

Could be one or both of two things.

1. The accelerator pump in the carb is clogged, the linkage is unhooked, or the diaphram in the pump is bad. It's cheap to replace and comes in the carb rebuild kit. This usually just causes hesitation when you step on the gas pedal. It doesn't usually cause the engine to stop running.

2. More likely is that the main jet in the carb is clogged. At idle, high vacuum under the closed throttle plate in the carb causes fuel to flow thru the idle jet. As the throttle plate opens (as you step on the pedal), the vacuum under the plate dissipates, stopping the flow of fuel thru the idle jet, and the vacuum ABOVE the throttle plate increases, which is supposed to then draw fuel from the carb bowl thru the main jet in the carb. If the main jet is clogged with dirt, then it can idle just fine and die as soon as you step on the pedal.

I don't think the fuel pump is pumping. Car wont

you would have to fnd the gas line that goes to your motor disconnect and crank car to see if feul comes ,but some cars have a fuel line with a valve that you push in the little pin in the middle and should shoot out fuel looks like your aircondition line but it should be next to fuel injection line

My gas gauge works (not incredibly accurate, but works). When i stop for more than a few seconds the gauge goes to empty. when i start moving it goes back to full and slowly comes down to where the gas...

As far as the gas gauge level goes, it sounds to me like it could be the float ball system that is inside of the gas tank, which is connected to the fuel pump.I dont think your guage in the dash is broke, but i could be wrong. Sounds like something in the fuel pump area

hi try taking the air filter pipe off the throttle body see if the butterfly spindle has no play in the spindle or the retaining screws that hold it to the spindle have not come loose just put your finger on the butterfly while its idling see if the noise goes if not just pinch the vacuum hose on the vacuum box see if noise goes or changes pitch yates210456
