Question about 2000 GMC Jimmy

1 Answer

I am having problems with my low beam head lights. During the day when the running lights are on (low beam lights) they work fine though if I turn my lights on with the switch they go out. Also if switch is off and running during light hours again working but when it changes to dark the low beams go off. I have asked a few mechanics and have not heard an answer yet hope some one might be able to guide me in the right direction as for a problem or part to be replaced. Thanks

DRL's (daytime running lights) are not low beams, replace the multifunction switch, it is what commonly causes this, this is the same as the turn signal switch.

Your running lights which come on when you are in drive should be the ones flashing when you use the key FOB to lock or unlock vehicle not your head lights. Although unusual maybe both low beam head lights are burnt out or a bad ground, that the only thing that makes sense to me.

My truck is actually a '95 C1500 but I understand that they were the same model from 88-98. I have 2 problems - both electrical. On a recent trip, I lost both low beam headlights at the same time. ...

There could be a fuse for each low beam light either under the hood or under the dash. If not, then prob both low beams are bad.

If you have daytime run lights, the following may be of help.

There is a daytime running light module that controls both low beams and the daytime running lights. The low beam bulbs may be OK. The high beams will work fine as they are not controlled through the module.

It may be possible to disable the daytime run lights by cutting the yellow wire going into the module and then connecting it to ground. Tape off the other end.

This will help. Thanks please keep updated.please do rate the solution positively .thank you for using fixya

My 87 k5 blazer headlights don't turn on when the car is started and running any more... all 4 headlights turn on fine when I pull the lever all the way out for high beams

The vehicle should not have to be running for head lights to burn.If high beams work, then the low beam head lights could be burned out, even though they light up with high beams. The dimmer switch, can be the problem if the head lights only work on high beam.

Auto lighting of daytime running (low beam) lamps

Yes. These are called DRL's or daytime running lights. It is law that vehicles manufactured after 1985 must have low amperage lighting on while running.

High-low beams not working

Check for headlight relay and fuse. Some cars have separate circuits for head light flasher and normal high/low beam. From your description, I would suspect a bad connection to/from relay or relay itself.
