You have apparently broken a timing belt..If the engine and cams are not rotating together, the ecu will not send a spark or fuel. Pull the cam sprocket covers and inspect the belt.

Clogged air filter ? Needs air into the engine also ,plus compression . Are the fuel injectors spraying fuel into the engine ? Try spraying starting fluid into the engine through the throttle plate and seeing if it starts then ? If it does ,fuel injector problems .

when its mis-firing it is surley putting engine management light on so get codes read.
also when mis-firing need to check to make sure injectors pulsing usually done with magnistick light. if one not working could be injector or feed/earth from engine ecm. also remove and check continuity of coil packs incase another gone faulty.

97 cavalier, won't start, turns over and pops a little, has spark and fuel. checked plugs and wires. 2.2 liter, quit on me when coming off highway, and can't get it started agian

you may have fuel but you may not have enough fuel pressure to operate the fuel injectors.you should have the fuel pressure checked at a shop as your fuel pump may not be any good.the fact that you said it pops a little when trying to start is another possible indication of a fuel problem.if there is a computer sensor problem then th e check engine light should have come on or is on longer than the bulb test time when you turn the key on.

It sounds like the engine is misfiring. Get the code read at local shop or auto store. It should tell you which cylinder is misfiring then you can begin diagnosing the problem on that cylinder, whether it be a spark plug, coil, fuel injector, or you could have lean codes in which case you will have either a vacuum leak or low fuel pressure. Without the diagnostic trouble code it is hard to tell what is going on.

Sounds like the fuel filter. It would indicate the correct pressure at idle or maybe even revving. Once the engine is put under a load (highway speeds) it begins to choke. Try replacing the fuel filter.

Not that I am an expert, but I saw a recall for the fuel pump. You may want to see if yours has been changed.
