The fuel pump will cause a no start, no other symptoms in most cases, the water pump will leak coolant and in some cases rattle

spray a quick mist of starting fluid into air cleaner hose. Reinstall. If vehicle starts then shut off, suspect possible faulty fuel pump relay, fuel pump fuse, fuel pump, or wiring

I have a 2004 grand am. the motor turns over but wont start. I changed the fuel pump, the ignition is good, fuses are all good but it will not start

first check the fuel filter. check before and after the filter if you get fuel before it then check after it, no fuel before go back to the pump. if you get fuel after then go to the fuel rail on the motor. open the line before the pressure regulator, if you get fuel then check after the regulator, if none after then the regulator is bad, if the regulator is vacuum assisted check your vacuum.

If its a "paper" type cartrige filter, the fuel pump sits inside it, in the fuel tank.

If its metal, most GM bodies have the fuel filter under the car, drivers side, in front of the rear axle.

Hope this helps.
