Alot of new cars do not have a check stick. If you dont have a leak then its most likely just fine. What we do to service these is on the tranny there are two holes. One on the bottom and one close to the top. You fill till it overflows out the top hole. thats it.

It should be a dip stick that look like the oil dip stick. It should be on the other side of the oil.

Sometimes it feels like my transmission is jerking and it has a whinning sound

Sounds like the transmission pump is starving for fluid. check the fluid level and color. the fluid should look red but not dark. try changing the fluid and filter. may have to have the front pump replaced. check these things ASAP front pump damage occures very quickly

Hi im trying to find where i put transmission oil in my 1990 toyota camry with an inline four

If you are talking about an Automatic Transmission, you pull out the Transmission dip stick and add the transmission fluid though that hole. The capacity for the 1990 Camry is 2.6 Quarts. THEN you have the differential section of the transmissioin. That takes 1.7 Quarts. The differential section has a plug at the bottom of the transmission to drain it and another plug on the side of the transaxle case to fill it. You fill it until it overflows out of the side hole. That is 1.7 Quarts. Both parts of the transmission take Dexron II transmission fluid. It is not the same as Dexron IV and is not backwards compatible. I use Royal Purple Max ATF for both parts of this transmission.

1995 lincoln occasionally has problems getting in gear to go. Seems like it is stuck in neutral. Lasts a few seconds then it gets into gear and goes.

SEEMS LIKE TRANSMISSION FLUID LOW.TRANSMISSION SLIPPING TRYING TO GO IN DRIVE.CHECK TRANSMISSION FLUID LEVEL. IF LOW ADD FLUID UNTIL YOU REACH FULL MARK ON TRANSMISSION DIP STICK. WITH ENGINE RUNNING A IN OPERATING TEMPERATURE.IF FLUID LEVEL OKAY.CHANGE TRANSMISSION FLUID AND FILTER IF YOU HAVE NOT CHANGED IN A LONG WHILE.A DIRTY STOPPED UP FILTER WILL CAUSE TRANSMISSION TO SLIP.CANT PICK UP FLUID.

Just looking to add more transmissioin fluid.. not sure where

Underhood Check-check for transmission fluid at the transmission case screwed in with a dipstick. Most GM vehicles equipped with automatic transmissions have such a dipstick.
  • Engine oil--Check the engine oil level.
  • Coolant--Check the radiator coolant level in the reservoir.
  • Battery-- Visually check battery cables and connections.
  • Automatic transmission--Check the fluid level.
  • Master cylinder--Check the fluid level.
  • Power Steering--Check the fluid level.
  • Windshield washer--Check the fluid level.
  • Belts & hoses--Visually check all belts and hoses for wear. NOTE: In addition to the items listed above there are cases with some manufacturer's where odd components such as manual transmission/transaxles and front differentials many be equipped with a dipstick found underhood for fluid level check. If you are unsure of a dipstick on your vehicle, check with the owners manual. 89531p07.jpg

I have a 1995 Chevy Tahoe with an automatic transmission which will all of a sudden not shift out of third gear. What is going on here?

check the wiring on top of the transmission. there is an electrical plug for the speed sensor, if it is loose, the veh will not shift correctly. get someone to remove it, reset the wires in the plug and clean the female end of the plug on the transmission. I have the same problem. It jumps from first to 3rd then back and forth then finally stays in 3rd. I pushed the wires in to set them in deeper on the plug and it seems to help.

I have a 1999 Plymouth Neon and I am having problems with my transmission shifting. The problem came on all of the sudden there are no other noises and it does not want to shift the correct way if at all.

Check the fluid level in the transmissioin, and if it's ok, I think it's time to have the fluid and filter changed oer have the system flushed.

If this doesn't solve the problem, the transmission will have to be rebuilt or replaced with a used or rebuilt transmission.

How do i know if my transmission is going out or if im low on fluid? cant seem to find my transmission fluid where would i find it? and what are the signs that my transmission is going bad?

If you know where the oil dipstick is, the transmission dipstick is very similar but closer to the firewall. Engine must be idleing to check tranny. There are normally marks on the stick that read "cold" and "hot". That describes the level of fluid dependant on tranny temp. Transmission fluid should be changed around every 30,000 miles. Symptoms of bad tranny, assuming good clean fluid, are hard shifting, won't shift (i.e.stays in 2nd gear) Or you accelerate and the tranny spins then jerks the car suddenly. An honest tranmission shop can tell.
