Lights on switch are on, but both seat's don't heat. We leave both switches on all the time. Now and then, rarely, both seats start to heat at the same time as we are driving along, then quit again after a few minutes. So something is failing that makes both seat heaters not work at same time. What might it be?

Sounds like the same problem I had. I brought it to the Jeep dealer and they told me that the heating element in the seat stopped working. They told me that the only way to repair was to take the seat apart and replace the heating element in the seat. Of course they will charge you the standard $80 to tell you this. and then quote you $500 plus to repair. I can't even remember how much, I have decided it was not worth it.

Likely, the heating element in the seat has failed. The reason is simply that the drivers seat is in use more than any other seat in the vehicle. You can check continuity of the element with an ohmeter across the seat side of the heater connector. Check for power at the harness side with a volt meter. If there is power but no continuity, heater element has failed. Personally, I'd probably just live with it but you can either attempt to install a new heater element or if you can find a similar seat in a salvage yard, just buy it and put it in! (whole seat probably costs less than the element!!!
