The trans filter is inside the trans, you must remove the transmission pan to service it.

Urgent need for diagram/schematic 2005 Ford Escape XLS AWD 4 cal.

You talking rear differential? I would check the fluid level. There should be a plug where you can check fluid and add if needed. If you take the plug out and fluid tries to run out, put the plug back in, the fluid level is ok. In the old days, I'd stick the tip of my index finger and bend, If I could touch the fluid, I considered the level to be ok. I believe the spec I saw said about 3/16 below edge of hole was ok.

2005 Ford escape 4wd Transmission replace, vehicle vibrate when vehicle shifts from 1st to 2nd

if it feels like you are driving over rumble strips, you should replace your trans fluid with Mercon 5, replacing the filter when you do this-drop the trans pan, remove the filter and install the new one, clean the magnet at the bottom of the pan, button it up and fill it with the same amount you removed, then check the level when warm.

Actually, I had a transmission rebuilt by a certified transmission shop and they recommended that I go to a shop to have it flushed and filled every 30,000 mi. and that it was better than draining and filling with a filter change.

Where's transmission filter located?

Filter is not in the pan- my wife has an '03 Tribute with the 3.0, and trust me, it's not under the pan. From everything I have read, it's inside the tranny someplace and not accessible without tearing the thing out and down.

And, yes there is a drain plug on the side/bottom of the tranny case- you can use a 3/8" ratchet w/o a socket on it to loosen/tighten.

2005 escape auto transmission maintenance

You will have to pull the pan off the bottom of the trans, the filter is inside, this is a very messy job and you will most likely get trans fluid everywhere, I would suggest a shop do this unless you have a good floor jack and 4 jack stands, you will also need a large drain pan to catch the fluid. If you do this job do not overfill the trans, get it hot before you top it off with fluid, add 2 quarts right away and then keep adding until it is just below the fluid full line on the dip stick.

PS the other post is a fluid flush and does not include a pan removal or filter change.
