What I've seen done to test an injector is to pull it, and swap it for another cylinder. If the miss moves, then the injector is bad. If the miss stays on #5, then the problem isn't the injector.

1998 gmc jimmy, about a month ago,I changed plugs wires cap and rotor and now it is runnniun ruff, mising out on acceleration shakes @ 2000 rpm.ran good for a month.

If a random multiple misfire code appears , and electrical system checks out Ok, need to do a fuel pressure test at the fuel rail (Drivers side) if checks out ok, it very well can be sticky fuel injectors. If injectors leak by can cause to much fuel dispursed into engine, sometimes a bottle of lucas fuel injector cleaner will do the trick, opens up the poppets (injectors) although the (Spider Injector) has an electrical pulse that is supplied from the ECM (computer.) The spider injectors definitely go bad some sooner than others! Not a pleasant job also an expensive job if u are not doing it yourself! If your vehicle was fine before this started happening go back over everthing u have done, check each wire out with a noid to see if spark is correct ( A noid plugs into end of the wire that goes onto the sparkplug, check each wire one at a time, u can purchase a noid for this vehicle at your local autoparts store) Not saying this is definitely the problem, there are many things that cause these problems, crank sensor, cam sensor, tps mass air flow map sensor intake leaks and vacuum leaks etc etc,u can check for leaks by spraying down intake and vacuum lines with a can of carb cleaner, look for a change in the idle when u are spraying it down How do we know? been thru it all to often! GOOD LUCK! 1998 GMC Jimmy 4.3 Liter Vortec V- 6.

What is a Vortec engine?

The "spider" injector is the problem. You're right that one of the injectors is stuck open, unfortunately it has to be replaced as an assembly. This a common problem on the Vortec V-6's. When you were checking the fuel pressure, the fuel was passing through the open injector, giving you a low reading. After replacing the injector assembly, be sure to change your oil before you start the engine. I'd be willing to be you have a pint or two of gasoline that has gotten into the crankcase. That injector unit will cost you around $350. It's not too hard to put in, just be careful.

1998 4x4 jimmy has spark will not start

check the fuel pump, are you getting fuel preasure to the injectors, you may need a gauge to test this,or if you spary the throttle body will it start if it does then i would say its the feulpump, start there first.

DIRTY FUEL INJECTORS FLOODING THE ENGINE.CLEAN INJECTOR BY.FILLING UP GAS TANK. PUT A BOTTLE OF FUEL INJECTOR CLEANER IN GAS TANK.DRIVE CAR FEW MILES SO THE INJECTOR CLEANER CAN FLUSH OUT CLEAN THE INJECTORS.

1998 GMC Jimmy with "turn signal" clicking behind glove box

I have a 1998 GMC Jimmy SLT with same exact problem. I just determined exactly what it is today.
Here is what you should do:

1) Open glove box

2) Notice the u-shape mechanism that prevents the glove box from folding all the way down. (located near top left corner of OPEN glove box

3) Empty contents of glove box and then push up on U-shape and open glove box so that it hangs freely

4) Notice the wiring harness with a bolt in middle of it (located behind glove box)

5) To the right of the wiring harness is a small black box with a zip tie over it. This is the source of your problem. Just slide the zip tie to the right so that the box can then be pulled out.

This is your combination flasher for turn and hazard signals. My signals still worked while this annoying little thing kept clicking. The model # is GM11516051. You can find one on e-bay for at least 1/2 the price of the dealer's.

TPS in a 1998 GMC Jimmy

the tps is ususally at the side of the throttle body opposite where the throttle cable / tv cable mount.
sometimes it won't start, run, or run erratically. there are ways of testing this unit (by output voltage) before you commit to buying a new one. to test it you will need a dvom (digital volt ohm meter).

just a note: straight from the book... "a broken or loose tps can cause intermitten burst of fuel from the injector and an unstable idle because the ecm thinks the throttle is moving."
