Check the a/c relay. It is located under the hood in the relay and fuse box. The diagram should be located under the fuse and relay lid.

Coincidence. If AC clutch is not engaging, it is usually due to the fact that you have an insufficient refrigerant charge in your system.

If unit is charged then check the wiring to clutch mechanism and unit itself for continuity of the winding.

Chances are you may have a low pressure relay that shut it off. Check the pressure and add more r34 if its low on coolant.

My a/c compressor is only blowing hot air when I turn it on. I know a little about cars so I know it's the a/c but I am not able to find one on any site that may sell used or new.


If all you get is hot air there are several possibilities. The compressor is driven by the serpentine belt and is engaged and disengaged by an electric clutch mounted on the compressor drive pulley. With the engine running, have an assistant turn on the AC while you observe the AC compressor clutch. If the clutch engages, you can be reasonably sure that the system has freon, and the electric circuit is OK. If the clutch doesn't engage, which is the most likely situation, either you are low on freon, the AC clutch relay is inop, or AC compressor fuse is open (blown). A search of Google images will give you the location of the AC relay. You can pull out the relay, carefully remove the cover, reinsert the relay, and engage the compressor clutch by manually closing the relay contacts. Warning: do this only for a second or two in order to see the clutch engage. If the clutch does engage, then you are probably low on freon. There is a safety switch that prevents the clutch from operating if there is not enough freon in the system. Hopefully, this is the case. Go to Walmart and get two cans of r-134 and the inexpensive kit, and following their instructions, charge your system. If this is not the problem, you'll need a set of AC gauges and the skill to use them. Hope this helps. Dano

Find the AC compressor. The pulley on it has an electric clutch that allows the compressor to run when the AC is on and not when it is off. With the engine running you should be able to see if the clutch is turning or not. The pulley turns all the time the engine is running only the clutch behind the pulley starts and stops. Look at the pulley with the AC off. Have someone turn it on and see if the clutch engages to turn the compressor. If it doesn't engage there are a couple thing that could be wrong. First the clutch has burned out and no longer works. The fuse on the AC clutch is blown. Check the fuse. More likely, if the cold air has been getting warmer, the AC system has a refrigerant leak. The system has a low pressure switch that prevents the clutch from engaging when the refrigerant pressure is too low. If the fuse is good then you need to have a qualified AC Technician check the system.

My control unit wont switch on ac


It may not be a control unit issue. Be sure to check all fuses. You may have a pressure switch issue. There are at least 2 pressure switches located in the engine compartment. One is usually located on the back of the ac pump and there is usually one on the passenger side near the firewall on one of the aluminum ac lines. You can simply unplug the one by the firewall and take a paper clip and unfold it and use it for a jumper on the connector. Put one end of the clip in one side of the connector (the end of the connector that plugs into the switch) and the other end of the clip into the other side of the connector. Start your Tahoe and turn the ac on and if the ac pump is turning with the ac clutch engaged that means that you either have a bad switch or your are low on refrigerant. Feel the aluminum ac lines and see if they are getting cold. If so I would suspect a bad pressure switch. You can remove the paper clip while the vehicle is running and put it back in if you are not sure if the ac clutch is engaged. It should make a clicking noise when it engages and disengages. It is very simple to replace that switch. Simply unscrew it and screw the new one in and plug it in. It will hiss just a little when you remove and install so be quick. It will stop when you remove the old one and will hiss again a little when installing the new one. The switch on the back of the pump is not so easy. The refrigerant needs to be evacuated from the system before it can be replaced.

I would take it back to whoever replaced the module however, if you want to check for the problem yourself, Look for the AC compressor. with the AC turned off have someone start the vehicle, while watching the AC compressor have the person in the vehicle turn the AC on. If the clutch engages then you have lost your freon charge and need to have the AC unit serviced. If it does not start turn the engine off and check all the wiring connections going to the AC compressor. If all the connections are good start the vehicle, and have the person in the vehicle turn the control to cold and turn on the defroster. If the AC clutch engages then you have a bad ECM module or mis-programmed ECM take it back to be Properly programmed and repaired. If the clutch does not engage it is possible the AC compressor is bad. Take the vehicle to the Mechanic to have teh AC system checked to see why it is not engaging.

Bruce did you check the freon. if the pressure is not enough the ac clutch will not engage. If it is the freon you may want to use a leak detector from your local autoparts store before wasting freon.

That would be the fan clutch on the compressor itself... if it wont take a charge with all setting on high and running then you'll need to get it replaced , have a specialist inspect it to make sure the innards of the compresor arent junk...I have same pronblem with my 97 z28.. but it will take a charge and last 3 months then i have to recharge...The clutch and innards of my compressor are going bad..So its a chevy known issue,,,best of luck...Ohh one more thing do you hear a hiss when you turn it off and on, the ac that is
