I have a 2003 kia sorento, I had an anti and fiannly I added some Barrs leak. It stopped for awhile. Now I have little warmth, but heater gauge goes to 3/4 mark not half way mark. I drove for an hour...

If you keep topping it up it is still leaking and if there is no external leak then you probably have a blown head gasket with water leaking into the cylinders. You need pressure checks on the radiator and engine to find out where it is bad.
Check your oil level and see if the oil on the dip stick is white and foamy or clean and just dirty oily. If it is white and foamy it has water mixed with it (emulsified) and you have a leak between the water and oil galleries. (Normally a head gasket)
If the car will let you see the coolant, top the radiator up with the engine cold and leave the cap off so you can see the water flowing round. Run the engine until you see the water flowing round when the engine thermostat opens. If you get air bubbles in the radiator coolant your head gasket has gone. If you get a sudden burst of air through the coolant, again, the head gasket has gone.

It will NOT get better by itself and could be an expensive repair - new car time? Sorry.

How do you determine the oil pump failed on a 3.5 SE

you need to check oil pressure. you need oil pressure gauge and you will need to remove the oil pressure sensor from the back of the engine, just above the oil drain plug. its a single wire connector. the sender is a special socket also. just heads up. remove the sensor and screw in the pressure gauge. run car and observe pressure reading. if pressure is low, then the back timing chain cover gasket is most likely blown out. have seen quite few with than gasket blown out and that will cause low oil pressure.

Should I have the head machined before replacing head gasket?

Use a straight edge and feeler gauges to determine if its warped. If you do have it pained, then make sure you buy a shim to make up the difference.

2002 malibu runs hot.

Sounds like you have a faulty head gasket or maybe a cracked head.This can cause overheating and the check engine light to come on.The code for the o2 sensor is probably caused by coolant getting into the exhaust system and coating the sensor.The coolant fan may work but it cannot remove enough heat from the rad to make the engine cool off.Try some engine coolant stop leak to see if it will help.This maybe only a temperary fix.Let me know if you need more.MOE

Temperature gauge is fluctuating while driving.

I'm thinking the coolnat level is low, and this might be caused by a bad head gasket - At least $800 to fix - sorry.

you cylinder head is cracked, or your head gasket is gone. there is a test a shop can do on the cooling sytem to see if this is so

Heat gauge

Before getting too upset about this, try changing the temperature sender. Can't tell you where it is but it is usually on or near the thermostat housing but some engines have it on the intake manifold or rear of cyl head.

Coolant temp stays low

I believe when they replaced head gasket they installed too cool of a thermostat in it. need to replace thermostat with proper one should probably have a 195 degree one in it
