Fan relay switch is located in the rad. so is level sensor.
3.1's have history of blowing intake gasket. puts water/coolant in the oil.
check rad . check water pump. you can run without a thermostat, cheap to replace, put a new one in.
Check the rad fluid level. Just because the res does doesn't mean the rad and engine is.topped up.. Do not pressure test the system chance you may blow the intake gasket and force the coolant into the oil.

Usually near the thermostat.
By the way, remove the thermostat and drive around with the car. If it still overheats, might have some other problem, like you said, temp sensor, or some kind of electrical problem.

Car overheating

First confirm that the engine IS actually overheating - steam, no heat to the interior etc. Sometimes a temperature sensor will fail and give a misleading 'overheat' reading on gauge. For that matter sometimes the gauge can fail and give the same misleading reading. Check that the cooling fan comes on when the engine temperature starts to rise above 'normal'. If not check (in order) fan fuse, fan relay, fan sensor, fan. Real overheating is caused by a lack of coolant AND/OR lack of coolant flow. Modern cooling systems are 'closed'. In other words there should be little or no loss of coolant. If the level is significantly low you have a leak....either external or internal. With the coolant topped up to the correct level and the radiator cap on, run the engine and look for visible leaks...hoses, valves, radiator etc. Internal leaks, eg. head gasket will usually be accompanied by white exhaust smoke (steam), hard starting, rough running and bubbles in the expansion tank. Sometimes, though NOT always, you will find the engine oil has a milky look and/or engine oil will be mixed in with the coolant.

My 1993 cutlas supreme stalls randomly while idling or driving , but restart right away

You will need to change the crank position sensor first and see if it corrects the problem. It is located behind the engine near the firewall. It's a bit tricky to get to it, you would need to rotate the engine forward then look under the exhaust manifold and under the cylinder closest to the drivers side. Use a 10 mm deep socket to loosen bolt. After replacement and it is still stalling then you will need to replace the ECM (vehicle computer). If it turns out to be the computer, go to your local junkyard to get an inexpensive replacement Click on the link below to view the CPS, it is around $22

My son's 93 supreme is overheating within a few mins of driving. I think we should first change the thermostat, then is there a sensor that we should look at as well?

A thermostat is always a good thing to replace as it is relatively in-expensive, however, I would be checking to see if the cooling fan is coming on. Typically, you should have the cooling fan coming on between 100 - 108 degrees celsius. If you don't have cooling fan operation, I would check for power to it (12 volts at cooling fan motor harness). Let me know what you find!

94 cutlass supreme is overheating, all fluids are fine. I did have someone tell me i need 3 motor mounts replaced. could this be an issue of the car overheating?

Over heating can be caused by a faulty thermostat and or weak water pump and dirty radiator and old antifreeze or the radiator fan now working when at idle but should not over heat when driving. Service the cooling system if it has never been serviced before. Replace the thermostat, buy some radiator flush to clean out the radiator and heater core. Just follow the instruction and replace the antifreeze and make sure it's a 50/50 mix water/antifreeze. If you not sure how to mix it 50/50 you can buy them 50/50 premixed. Water boils at 100'C so you need antifreeze mixed with it but antifreeze does not have the same heat transfer as water so you cannot run 100% antifreeze cause it does not transfer heat fast enough and you over heat. Good luck and hope this helps. Keep me posted, Be glad to help, once you service the cooling system and your still over heating, then we look at the water pump.
