What is year--make--model? What other portion are you talking about?
Is the key broke or the ignition switch? Your key cylinder may be faulty?

Sometimes if the ignition will turn on, but, not crank the starter motor, I can use a jumper wire across the proper two terminals at the starter relay where applicable, and the vehicle will start. If you try anything like that, make sure tranny is in park or neutral and the parking brake is set.

SOURCE: Key broke off in ignition lock cylinder. Can't remove cylinder.

Non-Functional Lock Cylinder

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Remove the upper and lower steering column covers.
  3. Insert a 0.125 (3.17mm) drill bit in the hole at the top of the cylinder housing and drill out the retaining pin. NOTE: Be careful not to drill into the lock cylinder housing.
  4. Pull out the lock cylinder.
  5. Clean out all the metal shavings and check the tube for damage. If damaged, the housing must be replaced. To Install:
  6. Turn the new lock cylinder to accessory position and while pressing the retaining pin in, insert the lock cylinder into the housing.
  7. Turn the key to the OFF position the release the retaining pin.
  8. Try the lock cylinder operation in all positions.
  9. Reinstall the steering column covers.
  10. Reconnect the negative battery cable.

SOURCE: Key broke off in ignition lock cylinder. Cant start

Remove the lock cylinder housing, and try to get it out that way. Otherwise, get a new lock cylinder.

SOURCE: Can't remove ignition key. I can start it, drive

either you have a problem with the cable that connects the gear lever to the ignition or the steering lock has broke inside. But i seem to think that its more likely to be the cable

Testimonial: "I disconnected the battery to prevent possible electrical problems, and when I reconnected it, I started the car, turned it off, and removed the key. "

*Turn over. No start.>> Check spark and fuel.
*After remove the key but car still crank. (turn over)
The ignitin switch is stuck>>Check and replace. or ignition wire could be burn that keep touching metal frame.

Good luck

How to adjust transmission cable to shift right

Hi,

Turn the ignition key in a clockwise direction until it reaches its first position, meaning the position the key occupies before it begins to crank the engine if turned further, then move the transmission's shift knob to the "D" position. Turning the key to this position is necessary to unlock the transmission's shift knob. The engine need not be started to adjust the transmission's cable.

Jack up the vehicle with a shop jack, then lower the car onto safety stands to increase the workspace underneath the transmission.

Loosen, but do not remove, the single nut which attaches the end of the transmission's shift cable to the driver's side of the transmission with a wrench.

Position the shift lever on the side of the transmission, where the end of the shift cable attaches to, to the "drive" setting by first rotating the lever in a clockwise direction until the lever stops. Slowly rotate the lever in a counterclockwise direction. As the lever is rotated, it will click. The first time the lever clicks, the transmission is in second gear. The second time the lever clicks, the transmission is in the "drive" position.

Tighten the single nut which attaches the end of the transmission's shift cable to the transmission's shift lever to between 10- and 20 foot-pounds of torque with a torque wrench.

Lift the vehicle with the jack and remove the stands, then lower the vehicle to the ground.

I hope this helps.

1994 K1500- key will not turn to start truck, will turn to acc., but not start position

Two possibile solutions:

1. Steering wheel may be "binding" the ignition switch. Turn the steering wheel slightly either clockwise or counter-clockwise while turning the key.
2.Use different key or "flip" your key.

Hope this helps!
