The clutch/flywheel on my A/C compressor for the Mazda 3 (2006) locked up. The belt caught on fire because of this. The A/C was not running at the time. What causes this problem?

Probably a bad clutch on the a/c compressor and/or bearing.
have the dealership troubleshoot.

How many belts are there in this vechicle ????

first time look,?
why not post symptoms first.
A/C dead? is the belt missing. why not look at it?
the belt goes from crank shaft pulley to the compressor pulley
and the pulleys spin running but is the compressor shaft spinning
that is the question, is the clutch engaged or not.
this is the 1st step after checking fuses.

Air conditioner compressor locks up

If the compressor is seizing up it could be failed bearings in the compressor itself or something wrong with the electronic clutch on the front of it. (Im assuming its for your Chev Blazer as per the post?) If the fan belt is loose, the belt will slip causing horrible screeching noises. The clutch on the front of the compressor usually has 1 wire which runs behind the clutch across the top of the compressor. Check that the clutch is disengaging when the air con is not in use and it "pulls" in when you turn it on.

When i turn the air, heat or fan on i get a loud screech ac bel tensioner belt drive belt and alternator belt replaced?

It could be the clutch in the AC compressor is failing. If it completely locks up it will break your belt and likely cause the car not to run @ all. Get it checked out ASAP.

My 2000 alero makes a screeching sound when i turn on ac does anyone know what it could be?

Most probable cause is the belt slipping on the compressor pulley, either from being too loose or A/C compressor may be starting to lock up. The belt running your A/C compressor nromaly free spins on the pulley/bearing assy. when you engage the A/C the clutch assembly lock in against the pulley which engages the compressor. It is possible the the needed tension from your belt it too loose to spin the compressor when locked engaged or the compressor may be locking up. I would start by checking the belt tension if it has a manual adjustment and is not a serpentine belt with an auto tensioner.

I have a Mazda Tribute 2001. The Air conditioning all the sudden stopped working. In several occasions if we left the AC on for too long we heard a loud noise coming from the belts. Can it be a fuse or...

It sounds like your air conditioning compressor or air conditioning clutches have gone bad the solution is to have rebuilt (or buy a rebuilt)air conditioning compressor. Do not attempt to work on thr compressor yourself unless you are certified in air conditioning, gas in system can kill you if you breeth it in.

Questions about ac pulley and belt?

the defrosters run with the ac compressor running whenever its 49 degrees and higher. it does that to get rid of humidity faster. the pulley works off the ac clutch behind the pulley so you have a locked up clutch. find a belt to fit by bypassing the ac compressor will do if you like

How to change the belt on 1996 pontiac boneville

on the 3.8 liter v6, the pulley on the a/c compressor can be replaced if it is locked up (frozen) on the compressor. the question is what is actually locked up? if the a/c compressor is locked up but the a/c compressor pulley turns, then you need to disconnect the wire harness connecter that is on the a/c compressor pulley/clutch so you can run the defrost on the climate control. many GM cars will run the a/c when you switch the climate control to defrost especially in the winter so the a/c system stays lubed and does not lock up the a/c compressor from lack of use. you can then relace the belt without replacing the compressor pulley/clutch assembly. if the compressor pulley/clutch assembly is locked up, it will need to be replaced. i do not believe there is a way to route the belt bypassing the a/c compressor. you dont want the water pump turning in the wrong direction if you reroute the belt wrong or the engine will overheat. i hope this helps!

I am looking for a ac bypass pulley kit for my 90' mazda 626 4 cylender. is there any that are made specifically for that modle or that would work on it.

you'd be better off putting a Hub asy on the Compressor.Just because the compressor is locked up doesn't mean the Hub Bearing will not turn freely on the Clutch asy, just leave the wires to compressor disconnected from the Hub/clutch asy, the belt will ride fine , on a bad compressor, as long as it isn't engaged
