If the system is low on freon, the low pressure switch won't allow it to come on. Re charge the system, and go from there.

Freon is no longer used due to environmental concerns.
clutch might not engage due to system pressure being too low.

consult a mechanic, alternatively purchase a recharge kit (not expensive) at a car parts store.

AC clutch not engauging. No power at plug. Fuse and relay are good. Where do I look next?

There are high and low pressure switches in the system to prevent the clutch from energizing if the system is low, or overcharged, or your cooling fans aren't coming on. You can jump your comp. just to verify that the clutch/coil is good to eliminate it as a problem. A/C button might be suspect, I doubt it. Ambient Air Temp Sensor (if equipped) could prevent clutch from engaging. Year, make, and model helps.

Have a 1990 buick electra....the 20 amp fuse which controls the air conditioning & heat area keeps blowing immediately once replaced. Any ideas?

this fuse probably controls the ac clutch operation and/or the blower fan motor.. Disconnect the ac clutch at the connection next to the clutch pack behind the pulley. fit new fuse and if it blows then the problem will be in the fan motor control/ motor. If not then it will be the ac compressor clutch pack

Why won't my cooling fan turn on (swapped thermostat, thermoswitch, fan really)(fans work when hard wired to battery). Causes car to overheat in idle.

depending on the year, there should be 3 relays that control the fans.
There's a rad fan relay (4 pins), an a/c condensor fan relay (4 pins), and a fan control relay (5 pins). This allows them to be run at low speed or high speed. Check the grounds behind/under the righthand headlamp.
Check Fuses 57, 58 (30 Amps) and fuse 46 (15A) under the hood, and fuse 3 (7.5 Amps) in the driver's underdash fusebox.

Ac clutch will not engauge

is there any gas in the system? some compressors will not switch on if there is no gas in the system. you may also need to check the fuse and the live to the compressor. but i would say the system has lost its gas

let me know if this helps

cheers

Location of ac high pressure cutout switch on a 97 Plymouth voyager. Could it be a different problem? Had to replaced the PCM and a couple sensors because of a short in the wiring cluster. Now the ac...

HIGH PRESSURE CUTOFF SWITCH LOCATED ON AC COMPRESSOR DISCHARGE LINE LEADING TO THE CONDENSOR.THE HIGH PRESSURE CUTOFF SWITCH WILL CUT OFF THE AC COMPRESSOR IF SYSTEM PRESSURE RISES TO HIGH CAUSED BY RESTRICTION IN THE REFRIGERANT CIRCUIT OR OVERHEATED CONDENSOR.MAKE SURE COOLING FAN IS RUNNING WHEN THE AC SWITCH IS ON.THE COOLING FAN KEEP CONDENSOR COOL, IF COOLING FAN DONT RUN.YOUR AC WILL STOP BLOWING COLD AIR.HAVE THE REFRIGERANT SYSTEM CHECK OUT.MAKE SURE YOUR LOW SIDE PRESSURE IS 10 - 37 PSI. THE HIGH SIDE PRESSURE SHOULD BE 112 - 210 PSI. CHECK THE AC COMPRESSOR CLUTCH FUSE AND RELAY.

Extremely high pressure on low side and no reading on high side

You have a restriction in the system. Orifice tube, accumulator, dryer, evaporator, or condensor. Make sure your fan clutch is good as a faulty fan clutch that doesn't get rid of enough heat from the radiator can cause this because the condensor is mounted in FRONT of the radiator. The fan clutch should AWLAYS have some drag and should completely STOP within 2 seconds of turning the car off.

A/c blows hot air when the car is not moving but it will blow cold air when the car is moving.

Check to see if your electric cooling fan is working when the vehicle is in park with the engine and a/c running. If the fan isn't running then the a/c won't be able to blow cool air as it can't get rid of the heat through the condensor which is located ahead of the radiator. When you are driving over about 35 mph there is enough air being forced through the condensor and radiator to get rid of the heat and the a/c will start cooling properly again. If the fan isn't running and you sit with the car idling long enough [such as in heavy traffic] then the engine may overheat as it also has no way of cooling if the fan isn't working. Usually this fan is powerd by a 30 amp Maxi fuse but each model is a bit different. Your owners manual should have an illistration of the fuses and what they power. Good luck, hope this helps a bit!

Air con pump not engauging

Hi:

You should verify that your AC system still has a full charge of refridgerant, and if it does,
The problem is most likely the AC clutch assembly on the front of the compressor.

Since the dash light works, and the fan turns on, there is power to the system, but the compressor won't turn on if the pressure switch says the charge is low, and if you turn the switch, and someone can hear a click of the compressor clutch solenoid, but no air, the clutch assembly is probably the culprit

Engine running hot

Possibly fan clutch or clogged radiator/condensor.
To check for fan clutch, hook up A/C gauges, turn a/c on watch high side gauge. 300 psi. and above run water on condensor, if psi. goes down to about 250 psi and holds. replace fan clutch.
If not, check radiator/condensor for dibris outside, and or corrosion inside the radiator.
