Timing gear jumped throwing the valve timing is my guess, especially if it turns over even faster than normal or that it did before. .

You will need to determine if you are lacking spark or fuel when the engine is warmed up and fails to start. It could be the coil, ignition module, a relay, or various other components.

1-5-3-6-2-4 is the spark plug firing order for the 4.9 L ( 300 cubic inch ) straight 6

The distributor rotor turns CLOCKWISE

The marked # 1 position on the distributor cap is installed facing away from the engine

If it were the crankshaft position sensor, it wouldn't run at all.

I would check the ignition system, the coil packs in particular.

Also, check for any codes that might indicate a miss somewhere.

In addition, check for good compression, and often overlooked problem when the engine is cold.

The TFI module is on the side of the distributor but I would recommend replacing the module and stator witch is inside the distributor..... Have you checked to see if you have voltage to the coil?

TO REPLACE SPARK PLUGS YOU REMOVE COIL PACK MOUNTING BOLTS THEN REMOVE THE COIL PACK WITH BOOT OVER THE SPARK PLUG.YOU HAVE 6 INDIVIDUAL COIL PACK TO EACH CYLINDER. YOU NEED A 3/8 RATCHET WRENCH - LONG 3/8 EXTENSION -SPARK PLUG SOCKET - SPARK PLUG GAUGE.AND TORQUE WRENCH.THE 2000 MODEL JEEPS FUEL FILTER INSIDE THE TANK.1993 - 1996 MODEL JEEPS FUEL FILTER LOCATED LEFT SIDE OF THE VECHICLE NEAR THE FUEL TANK.

According to Chilton's manual, it is 1-5-3-6-2-4. Hope this helps.

you didn't say if you have the straight 6 or v 6.But i'll give the order for both.
The 4.9L straight 6 is 1-5-3-6-2-4----------- distributor rotor turning clockwise, and #1 plug is the first plug.
On the 3.0 and 4.2 V6 engines is 1-4-2-5-3-6-------#1 plug is the first plug on driver side---- facing engine.

Unfortunately, You will need to Change it all. None of the V8 Components will Transfer to the Inline 6. Please Rate My Response! Thanks!
