I suggest you purchase a maintenance manual in order to complete the repair without hassle or errors.

Check the ignition and power fuses under the hood and check the crank fuse under the dash. Also when the lights flicker , it sounds like you may have left a wire loose or off, check around the battery.

I'm assuming you have the distributor out? You will need to, as the shaft has a gear on the bottom end that has a roll pin. Make sure ALL is marked so that you re-assemble it the same way. You also need to mark the rotor position, and the base of the distributor so you can put it back where it was, or you will have to re-align and time everything!

you should have battery power going into ign switch. if you do not then your wiring from switch to battery is open somewhere. i cant pull a schematic on this but would assume it is not connecting thru a junction block trace this wire back to its source and find where you are losing power

Check engine light

you will need a 5.5mm socket. first remove the six bolts holding on the coil packs. then pull the coil packs off. remember the order they were in. next loosen the bolt that connects the wires to the module. the module should lift right up. replace and put back accordingly.

I had the same problem with my 85 cj7 this week, I relpaced the ignition control module, plugs, wires, cap, rotor and the the coil; still had no fire to plugs. the problem turned out to be my distributor, replaced it today and she fired right up. Most likely it was the pick up module in the distributor that went bad.

Have another look at your plug wires, and make sure that you have them in the right order. As you probably know, if the firing order is wrong, you can have problems. That is somewhere for you to start, anyway.
