There is a female-male connector that connects the wire harness from engine to the cab located in passenger side kick panel. Find it and disconnect them. Look at each side to see if the connector is burnt. If it is it will need to be replaced or you can cut the rear defrost wire away from the connector and connect them direct. To much amperage causes these to burn out. If joining them direct do it cleanly and at your own risk. You can check the current at the rear defrost to see if this is the issue. front defrost is supplied by heated air. Rear is an electric coil on the window.

SOURCE: my defroster is blowing out hot air but not defrosting my window

Bizarre. It is blowing hot air? If so are there vents you can change direction towards windshield?

SOURCE: Defroster & floor blowers don't work but front facing vents do

There are what they call mode door's these days they have a electrical motor that turnes the door to different posistions...sounds like yours is become broken. It would depend on your expertise in the ac & heating system area to replace the part. Sometimes easy and most of the times the dash has to be removed.

I have a 2007 dodge magnum with limo tint windows! My side windows don't defrost however the windshield and rear window defrost just fine and my heater works great!

Your windshield and rear window has defrost outlets that exhaust right onto your front and rear window glass. Your side glass probably doesn't enjoy this luxury.

Why wont my ac or heater come on in my 2003 chevy impala, but the defroster it work on defrost only when i turn it to the heat position, but not on ac mode.

Check the actuator motor on the heater. It moves the arms that directs the doors to switch from heat to ac. and to defrosters.

How do I fix the defrost on the my Mitsubishi Galant? It wont change blower directions in order to go to defrost.

Need your model and year, please. The mode switch is usually operated by vacuum. The control panel mode switch receives vacuum supply from the intake manifold and distributes to the actuator doors as commanded by the control switch. If the vacuum supply is disconnected or leaking, the system defaults to one mode--which is usually defrost, but depends on the design. I can provide more details if you reply with model and year.

The outside air temp reads ---. On a 2007 Chevy Impala

How mechanically inclined are you ? Can you pull the HVAC control module ? Maybe one of the pins baked out ,( if he, who ever fixed rear defroster was in there to test the circuit ) Connector 1 Description: 16-Way F Micro 64 Modular (BU) pin 9 ,L-GN/BK Ambient Air Temperature Sensor Signal wire . These are very small wires and terminals , could have been spread apart , not making good connection . Or take it back to who fixed rear defroster, if he did it he should fix it no charge !

Front windshield defrost problems

Usually a faulty blend door under the dash.

Defrost just one side works

When you say defrost doesn't work, are meaning the blower or thermal defroster? If its the thermal defroster for the rear window this could be a fuse or the element has probably either stopped working or has come unglued from the window itself. This is a common problem. If its the blower for the front windshield defroster then it could very well be the actuator inside the dash that has malfunctioned and not opening when the selector is set at desired direction of circulation.
