Your ac pulley may be worn so the engine needs extra boost and power to run it thats why when it is in optimal power (highway-- high engine power)as opposed to idle(low engine speed) it runs. You might need it replaced.

What would make the AC in 2000 Maxima only run cold when moving?

Sometimes the compressor may not have enough compression when the engine is idling. It could have a weak compressor, a low charge of refrigerant or the condenser fans might be running or moving enough air.

1996 maxima 02 sensor and knock sensors have both been replaced with new parts. car has been driven over 200 miles. how many miles untill system resets to pass emmissions ??

with a hand held diagnostic computer it can be done in about an hour. Drive the car as an owner it could take up to a month. It is the driving condition , not mileage that resets the ECM. You have to drive on the highway at certain speeds for a certain amount of time, then in city driving, stop and go and at certain speeds for so long. The computer guides you threw it. If you only drive city or highway you may never get it to reset.

I am owning Nissan Maxima 2000 odo 18500 , runs perfect but when I am going on highway speed more than 140 it's heating up more.Appreciate you suggestion. Thanks

Dear dotcomsha,

140mph is very fast and will run very hot which will keep your engine cleaner than running slow!
Are there any warning lights coming on?
If not don't worry you have to slow down sooner or later.
Just keep it well maintained!
If I can help in any other way please let me know!

Nissan 2000 ac hot when idle

the a/c condenser has a fan in front ( there is actually 2 fans if you sit on the car it will be fan on right side ) if this fan does not
come on immediately when you are parked and engine in idle
there is a problem with power to it, or motor failure. If you drive it
on the highway and a/c operates fine that's because air is circulating though condenser (thats what the fan is supposed to do at idle or slow traffic)
