Question about 1997 Ford Taurus
I had the same problem with a Ford Mondeo.
Next to the auto gear stick, there should be a little cover that will lift off. I used to have to just push down in the hole with a screwdriver, to release the gearstick. It's temporary - you'll have to see a mechanic if it keeps happening - there's a switch under there that needs changing.
