Chevy under design the cooling system.
Keep up with the 24,000 miles / 2 years coolant change interval.
Change the thermostat every two years as a preventive measurement.
Be good to the cooling system.
Use Amsoil oil and coolant if you has your engine does not leak oil.

It can be said for any vehicle. It just depends on how its treated through out its entire life. If its been driven hard and not maintained with proper fluid changes and filter changes then yes parts will break down. But If you take care of it, and if the previous owner(s) did so as well then it will only require normal maintenance throughout its normal life. I've got a 91 Isuzu Rodeo that's got almost an identical engine if you have the v6 that has over 160k on the odometer with the original engine that has never been rebuilt that still runs and sounds great. I had to change the trans due to a busted cooler line. Treat it right, and it will treat you right.
