If the car is front wheel drive then expect the answer to be a yes. Most compact cars the engine and transmission has to come out as a unit and has to come out under the car, meaning you'd either have to use a cherry picker to lift the body of the car, or use a lift to pick it up that way. If its rear wheel drive then most of the time you don't have to.

1996 buick centry transmission removal

place the car on a hoist .--- remove the tail shaft.-- support the rear of the engine .--- remove the inspection plate under bell housing--remove battery positive lead-- place a jack or other mobile support under the transmission-- undo the rear engine mount cross member.--- disconnect all wires and connections--If manual remove the gear lever and turret from inside the car or disconnect linkages to the box------ if auto remove the bolts holding the converter to the flex plate and push the converter back towards the gear box. use a piece of thin wire to hole it there by tying a bolt hole back to the bell housing inspection bolt hole. IF manual and auto ---remove the bell housing bolts and pull gear box straight back . watch for transmission oil coming out of the rear of the transmission. Installation is reverse process.

Need to know how to swap a manual transmission in a 1956 Thunderbird. Does the engine need pulled to do the swap?

IF you can remove the rear transmission cross member to allow the gear box to move down and back then there is no need to remove the engine . Just support the rear of the engine (jack under sump) as you will have to lower the rear of the engine to get the box /bell housing back under the floor pan

How to remove engine

buy a manual from the parts store, they are very informative and give step by step instructions. if its a four cyl. I remove engine and transmission together out the top. Take off the hood, remove the battery, remove and unplug all wires from the power distribution box near the battery. go inside the passenger area remove the glove box, disconnect all wires to the ECM route all wires through the fire wall.lay all wires that go to the engine on the engine. unbolt the power steering pump and the air conditioner compressor. lay them aside with hoses still attached. remove the harmonic balancer. Remove the axle shafts and remove the torque converter bolts leave the engine bolted to the transmission. Look in manual to see were to connect the chains and lift the engine out of the car on an angle engine up trans down. this is a quick synopsis of the job. I suggest you get allot of ziplock bags or bread pans and take off the bolts for like the A/C compressor and put it in the bag and write on the bag were they go. Do this for all of the bolts, it will be allot easier going back. hope this helps good luck, remember its not a big job its allot of little ones. trigger adams

Leaking heater core 2000 ford explorer hoe to replace

The heater core can only be removed after the dash board is removed from the vehicle. To remove the dash board the steering column needs to be dropped down or better yet also removed from the car. In addition to these two items being removed, the evaporator box in the engine compartment may need to be removed to provide access to the plenum box mounting nuts. Once the plenum is exposed, the box needs to be pulled back toward the rear of the vehicle and the core is removed through the top. It may seem like a tremendous undertaking, but it's the proper way to do it. The only short cut I can recommend, is instead of draining your radiator, pull one of the hoses off the core stubs and turn it back to the other stub while you're performing the repair. This will save you some time by not having to refill the entire system and bleed the air from the engine block. The Ford repair manual states 7.1 hours for the complete job. A good mechanic who stays at the repair can do the entire jobs in about 6 hours. TAKE YOUR TIME AND DON'T FORCE ANY COMPONENTS OR ATTEMPT TO BEND OR PRY THEM OUT OF YOUR WAY. I strongly suggest you buy a factory repair manual, you can get them on DVD from eBay for cheap. Here is a link to one such auction.

Remove gear box

This is a big job, and I list what to do, but I wou9ld also recommend you purchase a good manual, or go to alldatadiy site to purchase on line access to diagrams, info etc (great site) 1. disconnect battery ground cable @ battery and trans. case, unlock steering column, put trans. in neutral 2.disconnect back u light switch wires + black and white wire from starter solenoid 3remove air cleaner assembly 4.remove power steering speed sensor from the transaxle w/out removing the power steering hose 5remove the shift cable and the select cable from the top cover of the transaxle.Remove the mounting bolt from the cable stay. Be sure not to bend or kink the cable more than necessary. Remove both cables and the stay together. 6 Remove upper transaxle mounting bracket, remove the 4 transaxle to block attachment bolts that must be removed from the engine compartment. 7 Raise and support the vehicle safely. Remove both front wheels and splash shield 8 Drain the trans oil, remove clutch save cylinder. The cyl may be moved out of the way w/out disconnecting the hose 9 remove the center beam, remove the right radius rod completely, remove the right and left shafts. 10 remove the engine stiffener, remove the clutch cover, support the transaxle w/ a trans jack 11 remover the 3 lower bolts from the rear engine mounting bracket. Loosen but do not remove the top bolt. This bolt will support the weight o f the engine. 12 remove the 2 remaining engine to transaxle bolts. 13 with transaxle on a transmission jack disengage the input shaft from the clutch disc and lower the transaxle out of the vehicle. DO NOT ALLOW THE TRANSAXLE to hang on the input shaft. Once removal begins, remove it completely from the engine. Good luck, and please rate this, it took a while to get it down!
