Question about 2003 Mazda Protege

1 Answer

A rattling sound in the front left of car caused by small bumps.

When I go over bumps (usually smaller bumps like manholes) I get a rattling sound that seems to come from the front left part of the car. I took my car in to the mechanics get serviced and the guy said that there were some "rear link pins" that were bent or broken or loose, some thing was wrong with them so that they needed to be replaced. I didn't have the money to fix those along with the other stuff ($112 for the parts and 78 for the labor). I got my car back after fixing the water pump all the belts and replacing a broken engine mount, but the noise is still there. I don't even know what these "link pins" are. the mechanic said that they could be causing the rattling sound.

Check the droplinks for the anti roll bar... some are like ball joints, and they can seize, which causes the symptoms you are getting.

Had brakes done 4 wks ago; had them rechecked 7 days ago due to excessive squealing. I was told that I needed new ball joints, upper & lower. $800 later, my brakes still squealed and my left front...

The squeal is not caused by the ball joints. A lot of times it is caused by the kind of brake pads put in there or the brake disk needs to be turned. Honestly you should take it to an ase certified shop who knows what they are doing.

Front suspension rattles and makes bumping noises when I drive over bumps (even small bumps) and when I turn the wheel either left or right. Possibly a ball/joint problem?

It could be, but check shock bushings, control arm bushings, sway bar and brackets. There are anumber of things that can cause a rattle. The first thing to be done is jack the truck up mput it on stands and start checking before replaceing parts. Pay close attention to shocks bushings and anything rubber.

99 camery solara...ratlingnoise front left wheel,

Strut tops are a common failure on the 97-01 era Camry/Solaras.

They will make a hollow rattle sound whenever you hit bumps or uneven pavement.

They can be replaced one at a time, and do not require strut replacement if your old struts are still in good shape.
Replacement does require a strut compressor and an alignment afterwards, placing it outside the scope of most do-it-yourselfers.

It is labeled "suspension support" in the following diagram. The bearing below it is typically replaced at the same time.

Rattling in the dash

It sounds like there is a Dash Mounting Clip that has Broken and is Rattling against the Inside of the Dash. You will need to Remove the Front Panel of the Dash and check the Mounting Hardware for Breakage.
