The fuel pump is in the fuel tank and hopefully it is on empty as they are heavy to drop down when a lot of fuel is in them.Disconnect the fuel tank electrical connector which is on the drivers side under the van between the rocker panel and the tank. Next disconnect the fuel filler hose connections at the tank and then the 3 straps that hold the tank up (15mm bolts).Once the tank drops a foot, reach in on top of the tank and disconnect the fuel and vent lines. There is a tag on the wires at the tank that you may need to get the correct replacement pump.
No it's not, if your van is running fine, fuel pump is good, just the fuel gauge sending unit is bad, to repair, the gas tank will have to come off, the sending unit sit on the same hanger the fuel pump is on.
Unless there is an access panel inside the vehicle above the fuel pump, you will have to remove the fuel tank in order to access the pump. Do not forget to replace the fuel filter. Partially clogged fuel filter is one of the causes of a failed fuel pump.
