I have a 2014 CTS. When traveling downhill with cruise control engaged, the car will downshift 2 or 3 gears causing the rpm to run up over 4000. Is this normal operation for these cars?

This is normal if you are going up hill but if you go down hill there should be very little work for the engine and transmission to do.
Going up hill as the engine starts to pull it is normal to kick into a lower gear to give the car more pulling power. If it does it in the down hill mode you should get it checked like low fluid or something.

My 2008 corvette is giving a harsh downshift as I am coming downhill and the manual shift is not in gear?

I am assuming you have an automatic transmission. If you put in neutral and you feel a down shift, then adjust the shift cable. Your probably going to have to do this at/under the console. If you have a manual transmission, then it is internal. Shift forks could be bent, plastic guides are worn out or gone.

I have a Kia Optima 2005 automatic with elec manual shifting. When driving in D at highest gear and let up a little on gas or going downhill the car bucks once as though trying to downshift but quickly...

Check the condition of the trans fluid. If it is black the trans is proably worn out. You could take it to a kia dealership and ask them to reset the adaptives on your transmission.

Why does my truck slow down when im not even braking?

The gearing system is designed to downshift as you are slowing down. These vehicles do not "free wheel" like the old ones did so you feel the drag when you slow down to a light. I even notice it when I go downhill, sometimes not even having to brake too much before coming to a stop on a slight grade. I imagine it does little for our fuel economy. If it were in a BMW or several other models I would blame regenerative braking but on a LR ,,,no.

What does no engine break mean on nissan

When a downhill is detected with the gas pedal released, the engine brakes/slows your speed by downshifting the transmission to slow acceleration of the vehicle. Nissan has this function in their CVT automatic transmissions.

2009 Toyota Camry problems

All Toyota auto trans cars downshift when descending a hill when you tap the brake. This is called "Downhill Shift Logic"; what this is for is to eliminate the double shift when you come to the bottom of a hill and then accelerate. Normal condition. Usually happens above 38 MPH.
Also: The cruise will accelerate when going uphill. Normal condition.Plus: The cruise will not disengage back to the set MPH after you top the hill. Toyota recommends to disengage the cruise when encountering steep terrain.
