Question about 2002 Chevrolet Malibu

1 Answer

Aux. Systems dead.

Fuel and Temp gauges are dead as well as my radio, power windows, climate control, day/night sensor, and cruise control. I have done lots of reading and testing. The left junction box has everything working and all fuses are good, the right junction box is where the problem has been traced to so far, all the fuses are good, but they do not have power, I grabbed a multimeter and tested from from each fuse to a ground and that is where I was able to determine that only part of the passenger side was getting power. Notes about cars history: I bought the car from a shop and the mechanic there apparently installed a radio, this radio was poorly installed and not even unlocked, using my finger I can jiggle it around, it wasn't fastened in at all.

The windscreen demister button will not go off, my temp gauge is moving up and down and the external temp gauge show -----

A defogger, demister, or defroster is a system
is this the front HVAC defrost mode.
or the rear electric defogger. (heater element grid)
what temp gauge (engine>?) no car has climate controls. advanced.
external? (part of climate controls right) not a hand test tool.

my guess this is HVAC master, climate controls. are all the above.
these are complex on newer cars,
to fix such a complex device ,you need the FSM.
or at the least an account on alldata.com
check fuses. and read the FSM.
the FSM walks you through each fail and test steps.

on my car, it's a cable and a water valve, and a cable damper.
on your car is up to 3 complex, damper motors
and electronic thermostatic control and sensors.
vastly complex to mine. I can fix both but not with out the book.
what a tech does is , check power to the contoller first.
bad fuse, bad wires bad grounds, we use a DMM and measure the voltage at the controller, this is first.
then we check for loose connections.
i work the simple fails first (mil rules) this can find a simple problem
and by magic fixes the complex. (wasted effort later)
so the air temp sensor external, (real name) we work that first
i test the sensor voltage. is it spec, and right for current temp?
y/n, yes, then the controller is bad.
no? sensor bad, or power source to the sensor is bad.

that is how we fix electronic controls
1: power good.
2: inputs "
3: outputs."

No indicators working found fuse box which fuse?

When you are talking about "indicators" we could assuming that your are refer about signal lights. This work with "flashers" devices.

For 1996 Audi A4 2.8L SFI 6cyl the Flasher is located in front seating area, driver side, under dash, behind dash lower panel, mounted above driver side of steering column.

About generic fuses, open the driver side door. Remove panel on left side of dash. Fuse box is behind panel:

Where the fuse box to a 88 ford thunder bird 5.0 liter

The fuse panel is located underneath the dash, to the left of the steering column, next to the emergency brake pedal. You need to remove the under-dash insulation to access some parts of the fuse panel.

If it doesn't have a diagram inside the box, here's one I found online: http://www.coolcats.net/tech/reference/images/fusepanel.jpg

Speedometer and Cruise control dont work

It sounds like the computer system is still wet. I would wait a few more days before I panic and hope that it drys out. I don't think it's a fuse.
If you have to have the onboard computer replaced, it can run a couple of hundred dollars.
If you have the engine cleaned again, make sure that the electrical systems are protected well otherwise getting them wet will repeat your problems.
