What could cause my crankshaft pulley to wobble if it just has the 1 bolt in the center of it holding it in

Year/make/model?? Check to see if bolt is loose. Some crank pulleys have a rubber insert that can seperate causing a wobble.

Crankshaft Pulley wobbles on 1997 ford aspire

make sure the pulley bolt is tight then check the pulley for being bent. if these 2 things are good then you may have a bent crankshaft at the pulley end or worn crank bearing causing it to wobble.

Pulley wobble on front of 1991 Mazda MX5 Miata engine with short nose crank

Hello, Unless Mazda forges the pulley onto the crankshaft, the pulley is usually a separate piece. You do not know which piece is bent and there may be a possibility that the pulley is coming loose attributing to the wobble.

Clearance is a big issue in working on these transverse mounted motors. You may possibly be able to get a socket on the crankshaft bolt to tighten it. Its a guess on whether there is enough room to switch the crankshaft pulley without dropping the engine cradle out of the body.

I can not say whether the crank bolt is a left or right handed thread. But with a little more research you may be able to find out. Use the Web Browser for a specific part search.

A site called Car-parts.com is a Salvage network which links Salvage yards across the U.S. They have good contact info, price comparisions, and sometimes photos.

Discernable wobble/ vibration at crankshaft pulley? I can see small pieces of rubber like material sticking out, and it starts to smoke/smell as well as vibrate. Is this the correct name for this part? And...

Harmonic balancer, Yes, but the original may need to be removed with a puller, after the belt is removed. The rubber is an insulator between layers, and may be failing.

Crankshaft pulley has the wobble not spinning in a even manner

Most likely the rubber part of the harmonic balancer has deteriorated causing the twin pulleys to separate. Tightening would not help if this is the case. A replacement would be needed.

I have read the question about the crankshaft pulley wobbling really bad and needing a harmonic balancer and my question is....is the harmonic balancer and the crankshaft the same thing? I have the same...

The end of the crankshaft is usually called a snout, because that is what it looks like — just a shaft sticking out of the front of the engine between 1½" and 2" in diameter, with a threaded hole in the front, and a key-way along the side.

The harmonic balancer slides over the end of the crankshaft, and is held in place by a bolt and washer goiing into the front of the crankshaft.

The harmonic balancer usually has a ring around the outside separated from the part that goes over the crankshaft by a ring of neoprene. The neoprene and that outer ring are the vibration damper, preventing the crankshaft from ringing. On the face of the balancer the pulleys for accessories are mounted.

Every engine I have worked on — except motorcycles, lawnmowers and outboards — use this arrangement.

Regarding your case, I would do the disassembly first, then — with the parts in your hand — go get the replacement parts. Best guarantee I know of to make sure you get the right parts.

Crankshaft pulley wobbled loose an alternator belt wont stay on...

dear friend-as this crankshaft pulley is cast iron it is impossible that it could be bent so you will have to remove it and look for damage inside the pulley and on the crankshaft,if this is not repaired the fanbelt will never stay on.
