Question about 1996 Ford Probe

1 Answer

Added 3 quarts of oil now white smoke is coming from exhaust

I added too much oil to my 1996 Ford Probe. White smoke pours from my tailpipe when I tried to drive it home from the gas station. My car is here at work, how can I fix the problem myself?

Before this my car has been running poorly. When I would accellerate the engine sounded like a 18 wheeler does does while downshifting. A couple of times my car would not start. it would turnover but not "catch" and start. I was told to check my oil and it appeared to be low. I added 1-2 quarts and it would immediately start up.

You have to drain the excess oil i would suggest a complete oil change and oil filter. TAke off spark plugs put some wd 40 on each sparkplug hole start the car without any sparkplugs on ir. Reolace sparkplugs with new ones and the car should run again. I would also suggest to check for faulty sparkplug wires and bad air filter. While you are at it go ahead and check fuel filters.

1996 Saturn sl2 smoke problem not head gasket no antifreeze seeping in valve cover gasket leaks and losing about a quart and a half of oil no blue smoke kinda white but heavy a little stops driving

White coming out the tail pipes is coolant/water. Doesn't mean the head gasket is blown, but you'll wish it was. Could be a cracked head. They can crack inside the intake or exhaust port. This would still give you a good compression reading. If in the intake, you would have a misfire. Exhaust you wouldn't. As far as the blue goes. It is mostly white in color, with a hint of blue color. Loosing that much oil would be a major leak or the rings are shot. Rings being shot, you would see that blueish tint in the smoke.

White smoke out tailpipe car has 17300.00 miles

White smoke is coolant being burnt in the cylinder,
most likely from a failed head gasket

I would think a 1989 is too old to fix
Cost more than the car is worth

Any oil useage between oil changes every
say 3000 to 4500 miles is too much, engine is
worn

AFTER OIL CHANGE MY ML350 OIL HI LIGHT IS ON AND WHITE SMOKE IS COMING FROM THE EXHAUST

They may have added too much oil -- a 2004 MB ml350 with a 3.7L engine should take only 8.5 Quarts (including what goes in the oil filter) -- Exactly 8.5 Quarts, no more, no less. You may be able do check the oil level by using the onboard computer - pushing the buttons on the steering wheel - follow the directions in the owners manual on how to check the oil level.

Overheating still has coolant, white part blew out of the tailpipe, made a banging noise then starting smoking. Overheating with all fluid high. Told there was a front seal oil leak but not bad. Lost 2...

  • White smoke out out the tail pipe means you might have just blown your head gasket. White smoke is water (antifreeze) burning with the oil.

nothing to do with each other....white smoke or steam...if you have a good concentrate of antifreeze iin cooling system you can smell exhaust if smell like antifreeze the big problems with engine.....possible head gasket.....if stong fuel smell. sounds like a cylender or are not firing... causing not to burn fuel...is check engine light on... if so scan and pull codes

Black smoke from exhaust

this guy is wrong. Black smoke means to rich[to much fuel]. Your motor is not shot. Something is wrong with the engine management[sensor]. White or blue smoke is a fatal problem.
