SOURCE: transmission

I have same problem with a 95 4runner 4wd 3VZE engine and A340 H tranny. I had previously had a real bad problem with all gears "neutralizing" where car would rev up but not move forward or rear in any gear. I spent $ 1,500.00 for transmission and transfer case rebuild, and problem not solved. After months of research, I found out there is a "valve body" which is a an electronic plate inside the transmission drain pan right above the transmission filter. These valve bodies have solenoids which act as mini pumps inside transmission. I ordered a kit through a San Antonio, TX independent distributor (# 1 solenoid, # 2 solenoid, and a so called "lock up solenoid". Kit comes with full details how to replace those three sensors. I did job myself one afternoon..no problem. 4runner works like new now except for the reverse which acts as you mention. There is a fourth solenoid in the transfer case (not transmission) whcih was not part of the "kit" I bought. Although I'm not sure it is the cause, after replacing the other solenoids, the fix was dramatic on the forward gears. I'm currently researching if solenoid # 4 may be the cause of the reverse gear still not working fine.

SOURCE: 2006 Chevy Impala reduced engine power

best bet is to stop in at a Pep Boys, Autozone, or similar big autoparts seller, and ask for free trouble code scan, which should pinpoint area causing problem. If not obvious by codes, what is necessary to repair the problem code, get back to us with those codes and we will be glad to assist you further. Better this way, takes away the guess work, and saves you money, as well as getting it right the first time.

SOURCE: starts, idles & runs fine, but won't rev over 2400

This is indication of faulty MAF sensor. Its located on the air inlet, look and the air filter box and follow it to the engine there inline you will see the mass air flow sensor and the air intake temp sensor is built into the mass air flow sensor. when you locate the air filter box you will see the maf sensor its bolted to air box.Make sure the connector is good and also the wiring.Remove the MAF sensor, clean it and recheck. Also try driving without MAF sensor. If its revs fine, then its faulty MAF.------- This should help.Thanks.Helpmech.

Hi there 1960 series 2 land rover. Problem - idles ok on flat but dies on the slope/hill. Have put new parts in solex carburettor (Float etc). Is it the fuel pump?

Speaking solely from experience with working on and tuning different types of carburetors, mostly racing type cars,a carb engine that dies on a slope is starving for fuel, obviously, and more often than not it's either the float level and drop,or needles and seats. It is critical to measure and set the drop of the floats to prevent fuel starvation,as well as the maximum level allowed by the floats,to prevent flooding out the top.Needles and seats regulate the fuel coming into the carb based on the float level,so they are tightly intertwined with one another.Later versions of carburetors have high flow,and/or spring loaded needles and seats for extreme 4x4 climbing,so that starvation isn't an issue.Check fuel pressure from the pump,as well as volume,Volume is as important as pressure. You can measure volume easily with an empty jug and a helper to crank the engine over while you hold the fuel line into the jug,and watch how much fuel it's pumping.Easy and cheap check, plus you can watch what kind of pressure the pump is developing.6 psi is about the standard for carbs at the inlet.Racing engines can run 7-8 psi fuel pressure.Good luck.
