If you can see where the cable is broken... cut some of the insulation away from the cable, use 2 pairs of pliers... 1 pair on the insulated part of the cable and 1 pair on the cable itself- pull opposite ways and u should have it. hope this helps and good luck

Cable is stretched/sprung. Access hood release panel and pull cable with channel locks.. or worse, something is stuck in the latch mechanism under hood.

2001 Ford Explorer--can't open the hood with under dash pull. Mechanic called, wants to take out part of the grill to get at the latch.

You don't have to take the grille apart, besides, you can't take it apart without the hood open, so what he wants to do is smash it open. If you get another vehicle just like yours to look at under the hood, you can see exactly what to grab with a small hook or wire, you can pop the hood this way, some fords have a pinhole for popping the hood, might take you an hour to do it, but it can be done. Check it out, hope this helps.

How do i open the hood.

there should be a lever that is on the bottom edge of dash that is under the steering wheel along the trim. if the handle is broken you can use pliers to grab the cable and pull it to get the hood to realse. if you found all that and i seems to work ok then when pulling the release lever have a friend hit or shake the hood to get it to pop up a little so that you can open it all the way.

The release for the hood latch will not unlock on my 2000 ford explorer. I have tried to pull the cable with pliers, but no luck.

Do you mean its detached from the cable? If so, see if you can reach the attachment point for the cable and pull in direction of the cable to release. If this is helpful a thumbs up or clicking helpful would be greatly appreciated. God Bless Y release-hood-latch-will-not-unlock-mi3qs3kfzvqijsqzkmg2vt51-3-0.jpg

How to open a broken hood latch on 2000 ford explorer

if it is broken from inside the cab, skin the cable housing until you get to the cable and grab it with pliers or vice grips and pull the release. If it is broken from the latch under the hood you are going to need to get to the latch and release it with something, anything that you can get in there and pull the release latch.

My hood got stuck and i cant open it how do i open it help

Common problem. Have someone pull the release while you bang on the edge of the front of the hood with the heal of your hand, keep on the edge as you can dent the hood very easy. it will pop open then spray the latch with WD40. Let me know if this works.

Hood latch won't release. Can't get hood open

first, try smacking the hood at one of the front corners while someone else pulls the release handle. or even after you've pulled on it. if that works, once open, adjust and lubricate the hood latch assembly. if it still won't open, and it's the cable and not the latch you'll have to replace it anyway, so instead of removing the grill, cut the cable behind the pull lever under the dash where you can reach it. then skin the outer cable insulation away from the actual steel cable exposing an inch or two of it. then holding the insulation and plastic housing with pliers, grab the steel cable itself with pliers and pull it to open the hood. then replace the cable. the further you can reach up under the panel the better your chances of getting past the broken part of the cable and avoid removing the grill. you might also be able to gain access from up under the car if you're lucky.

99 Ford Explorer - Hood latch will not release. How do I get the hood open.

you will have to try to access where the cable connects to the hood latch from under the vehicle, just behind the grille.
