170K,engine tap from start that increases with rpms, sluggish, no cel, and only k&n filter mod. Any ideas why it is sluggish and feels like its dragging?

If it is a very load knocking that increases with rpm sorry sounds like you spun a crank bearing and you have a rod knocking. If it is just a tapping sound it could be something else.Do you have low or no oil pressure? If no oil pressure you have a rod knocking if you go too long like that and keep driving it you will cause the crank to be out of round and have to replace crank.

On my Mercedes, it says to only fill it up with premium fuel. If I fill it up with regular unleaded it will knock and ping.

My car makes a droning or humming sound around 2000 rpm along with vibration but it goes away as soon as I increase the speed or come to a stop.

could be the timing belt tensioner. with the timing casing removed place a socket extension bar on some metal then to your ear as it will help you locate the noise. be careful tho. failing that big end shells i would check. hope this helps

1998 Audi A4 will shift into gears, but not engage. RPM increase with no speed increase

It sounds like the clutch is completely gone, you will need to look and see if the clutch release bearing is moving, if it is then the transmission must come out and the clutch replaced.

2006 FORD FUSION 2.3l i get a rapping sound in my engine it starting when i accelerated from a light and got worse with driving sounds like something is rattling around under the valve cover

Does it sound like Metal on metal noise? or like a knocking noise?

If it increases with RPM that means you may have a serious issue.

If your comfortable i'd take off one coil pack at a time and see if the knocking stops. If it stops that cylinder might have Rod Knock..

it could be valve lash, or a valve train tick as well. There are several different things sadly.

I have a 2003 Ford Focus SE sedan. Just last night while driving for about a little over an hour I noticed what sounded like air rushing out in harmony with the engine turning over, and it is really loud,...

you may have a vacuum leak or a restriction in the exhaust system check around under the hood to see if you can narrow down the noise. a restriction in the exhaust causes the excess exhaust to push back threw and make a whooshing noise. hope this helps

Severe engine noise in synch with RPM, 94 Olds Ciera S

That sound of a thwack could be one of your cylinders has bottomed out ! If you experienced an overheated engine ! Then that could be the problem that includes major engine repair ! This work involves with removing the oil pan to get at the connecting rod and disconnecting the bottom of your cylinder ! Or replace the whole crankshaft ( part of the heart of your engine ). I would be so costly just to rebuild your engine if your can afford it! If your can't afford the costly repair than junk it ! I would !!
