Bypass the ignition switch and harness by directly wiring a toggle switch from the wires that went to the ignition in the first place

My jetta had been broken into and who ever broke in to it tried to steal it as well. they ripped out the ignition. when I got the car back I was using a flat head screw driver but now the screw driver just turns and the car wont start. I pulled out the wiring harness that goes directly into the ignition and cut it off. How can I put a toggle switch to get my jetta started???

does the car have an alarm system? if so what kind is it. some alarms prevent the car from starting if it sences a problem. it is possible that you hooked up the stereo and it is causing a malfunction in the starting.

SOURCE: 98 jetta wont start with a good battery and good starter

A common plroblem on the 2.0 engine cars is the distributer, try changing that, if that doesnt work their is a sensor in the block right behind the oil filter than can cause the no start issue, but its not as common

How do I start my 1987 Dodge Dakota without a key

You can also do it off the ignition solenoid under the hood. I rigged my friend's 85 RamCharger that way once. His key switch went bad and he needed a way to get home. Look for the post that has the IGN marks by it then run a jumper to the hot post for the battery. You should see your gauges come on when you have done it right. You will need a toggle switch for the ignition system and a push button for the starter. You will need to hook up the jumper for the ignition circuit to the toggle switch on one side and the battery side of the toggle switch to the other side. The push button will be for the neutral safety bypass. if you do your wiring right you should have a toggle switch that turns on you ignition system and a push button switch that engages your starter. Make sure the wire is heavy enough for the voltage amount for the toggle switch

Fan in 2005 Vw Jetta 2.5 is causing battery to drain, Is there any fuse that I can pull to stop the fan from draining the battery until I get paid and buy the part needed

the problem with pulling the fuse for your fan is that your fan wont come on anymore therefore it won't cool the engine and your engine will probably overheat and that is a very dangerous thing for the motor. A temporary fix would be to pull the fuse and put in a toggle switch then you could turn the fan on and off manually. You need a toggle switch that flips on and off only. There are two connections for the toggle switch. Connect two wires to the toggle switch and run one wire to one side of the fuse and the other wire to the other side of the fuse in place of the fuse itself.

Lost my keys, then I broke my ignition please help I need to hot wire there are 6 wires which

I hope you are only doing this temporarily. Generally speaking, ignition 1&2 would become powered when key is turned to on position. These could be wired to toggle switches. Highly recommend a high amperage momentary contact switch only for the starter lead. Best advice is the get a new ignition switch rather than mess with wiring. Doing so could do un repairable damage to your ignition system, wiring harness, and computer

I want to bypass the column ignition switch, and use toggles. The ignition switch is trash, it spins, but does not start the car, and my battery went dead. I cannot use the car now, and have no way of...

To do this, you will have to trick the security and interlock systems in the steering column, but yes, it can be done. You would disconnect the battery, undo the wiring at the switch, and pull the switch wires down out of the column. This is a big job, and you may be better off replacing the switch. Let me know if you have more questions.

By pass ignition switch

If your ignition switch is bad in your steering column, and the starter does not engage when the key is turned forward, then this is a quick fix for you.
BE SURE THE BATTERY IS DISCONECTED BEFORE YOU START WIRING. You can run some heave gauge (18 plus, and about 12 feet of it) wire to the top mount and the rear mount on the starter solenoid (one end of the wire to each, making a loop) Run the wire into the interior of the truck, and then install a toggle switch in the loop of wire. You will still have to turn on the key to engage the motor, but it will not start until you flip the toggle. That should get you by until you can replace the ignition switch in the column.

Foglight Switches

if you wired them into the factory harness, then you will have to add a factory switch. however you can wire an aftermarket switch directly to the foglights, bypassing any factory harness
