How to change serpentine belt on 2006 buick lacrosse

Start by drawing a diagram of the belt routing. Serpentine belts normaly have 1 spring loaded tensioner (1 pully will have a nut or 3/8 or 1/2 inch drive hole) That will be the tensioner. get spanner or ratchet to fit & lever the tensioner away from the belt. Remove belt. fit new belt to most pullys except the easiest to get to, lever the tenioner back & fit the belt to the last pully, Check the belt is on all pullys properly & your done

Verify you have it on correctly. Make sure you purchased correct belt. Is the tension pulley bad. If it is, it will need to be replaced.

I need to replace my serpateen belt how do i do that?

This label shows the accessory belt routing on a Lumina with a 3.1L engine

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Remove the drive belt shield.
  3. Fit a 3/8 inch breaker bar or ratchet to the square hole in the tensioner. Lift, or rotate the tensioner off of the drive belt. When the tension on the belt is removed, slide the drive belt from the pulleys.

To install:

  1. Taking care to follow the proper routing of the belt, slip the belt onto the pulleys. As a help, note that the water pump pulley is usually driven from the back (smooth side) of the belt.
  2. Fit a 3/8 -inch breaker bar or ratchet to the square hole in the tensioner. Lift, or rotate the tensioner and, with the belt in place, gently release the tensioner.
  3. Verify that the belt is correctly routed and aligned in the proper grooves of the accessory drive belt pulleys. Inspect the drive belt length scale on the drive belt tensioner for the proper indicated length. If the drive belt length scale does not indicate the proper installed length, the belt may be incorrect, incorrectly installed, worn out or the tensioner may be defective.
  4. Connect the negative battery cable. Start the vehicle and verify correct operation.

How do you make the tensioner release to tighten the timing belt?

The belt tensioner keeps the belt tight inside each accessory pulley while the engine is running. The tensioner is made up of a spring-loaded arm. If the spring inside of the tensioner becomes loose then it will not be able to hold the belt properly. And belt will also get loose. The belt tensioner is on the engine underneath the alternator. Its fitted by bolt.To loose the belt you will need drive socket and breaker bar .Turn the breaker bar counterclockwise to release tension from the belt.Remove the mounting bolt at the top center of the tensioner arm.The tensioner arm is loose and will easily come out.If you in-case are to replace the tensioner then place the new tensioner in same place and tighten the bolt which you removed. Before removing or moving the belt check the position of the belt passing from each pulley.so that when you fit the parts there is no problem in fitting the parts.
After its done.Start the engine and see that belt and tensioner runs freely and belt moving from each pulley smoothly.
------------- This will help.Thanks.Helpmech.

How do I loosen the tensioner to replace the serpentine belt on a 2004 Honda Accord?

First, note how the drive belt is routed, then use a wrench on the tensioner pulley center bolt and turn the tensioner clockwise (four cylinder engine) or counterclockwise (six cylinder engine) to release the drive belt tension. Remove the drive belt from the tensioner and relax the tensioner. Fit the new belt on the other pulleys, then turn the tensioner again and fit the new belt over the tensioner.

The picture is from a different model, but it is similar to what you are working with.

Belt drive

do you mean a drive belt? like a serpintine belt? first find the belt tensioner, use a socket that will fit on the bolt. attach a breaker bar to socket. lift tensioner up, when belt loosens slide belt off of one pulley. slowly release tensioner. remove belt. now is the tricky part. install new belt leaving that last pulley for last. use breaker bar again to lift tensioner, slide belt onto last pulley. slowly release tensioner. check all pulleys to make sure belt is on properly. when ready start engine to see if belt will work properly.
