Engine Diagrams

Hello. Here a non-photo diagram. Hope this helps!!!

The thermostat is located on the side of the water pump, the water pump is located just above the a/c compressor, the thermostat is fed coolant from the radiators lower radiator hose.
Thermostat :
1. drain coolant and tighten drain plug ( easier method : remove radiator cap, get big drain pan, place drain pan under lower radiator hose to radiator connection, remove clamp, slowly remove hose, allow coolant to drain into pan, now is a good time to remove radiator hose and clamp from thermostat housing )
2. remove thermostat cover / cap ( easiest to get at this when front of car is supported by jack stands and right hand side lower cover is removed ).
3. thermostat cap is held on by 3 bolts / remove thermostat.

You will notice that the thermostat's air bleed hole is pointing up and lines up with notch in water pump housing,,

ATTENTION :failure to install new thermostat in the correct location will cause engine to overheat.

1. install new thermostat to water pump, make sure air bleed hole lines up with notch, install and tighten bolts, install a new lower radiator hose, fill cooling system.

thermostat # 17670-77E00
lower radiator hose #17854-65G20
hose clamp #09401-36403
upper radiator hose # 17852-65G20

How to change my engine coolant in a 1992 ford ranger-v6 3.0 engine, with what kind of coolant and how much of it

Hello again Vicki, you can read my first post to you on type. Now for where and how. Put suitable container under radiator drain valve. Start to drain old antifreeze, you can also loosen radiator cap for faster drain, but make sure antifreeze doesn't start to spill all over your driveway or garage floor. When radiator and engine are mostly drained, I would recommend to change the thermostat. Follow the top radiator hose down to the engine. This is where you'll find the thermostat. Remove the attaching bolts and remove thermostat. If you wish to flush your engine, you can put water down the thermostat hole as well as the radiator cap hole, or you can do a fancy flush. Shut drain below, reinstall thermostat housing without thermostat, fill radiator with fancy flush cleaning solution and water replace radiator cap ,run for time stated on can of flush. Now you go back to where I began and start the draining again. Dispose off antifreeze correctly it is dangerous to animals if they ingest. Close drain, and fill engine with antifreeze thru thermostat housing, when almost to top install new thermostat and gasket. fill radiator almost to top, start engine, open inside heater and let engine warm to operating temperature. At this time the antifreeze level will drop, because thermostat will open, and you can fill some more .This should eliminate any possible air bubbles. Fill your coolant tank. I would like to know how you make out. GOOD LUCK.

Radator leak has a hole in it water is running out when you shut the car off

Most auto parts have stop leak for radiators, the recommendation is that you empty the radiator of coolant, pour the stop leak in the radiator and then fill with water. then run engine until it gets hot, there is a catalyst like liquid glass in the stop leak that expands with heat, but as it flows out any hole will turn soild, and stop the leak.once the leak is stopped and the car cools down, drain the water and fill with the proper level of coolant. but if the hole is to big may require some repair from a radiator shop. good luck!

Where is the radiator bolt located, to drain the water out of the radiator

should be at the bottom of the rad with a little hose coming from it .(the hose points down and goes nowhere just ther to help drain) if you cant find it you can also pull the bottom rad hose off and drain it that way.

My mazda mpv keeps overheating after i changed the water pump and thermostat.. how do i bleed my cooling system

It could be the radiator is bad. There is a plug located on the bottom of the radiator. Unscrew the plug and let the fluid drain, you should be able to see if there is rust or gunk in the water/antifreeze. Then use a garden hose and put it in the hole used to fill the radiator and let the water run.

HOW DFO YOU DRAIN THE RADIATOR OF 2002 3.4l MONTE

it should have a drain plug on the inner bottom that twist out. If not the bottom rad. hose will be fine to remove. I drain the water, and then run water through it with the hose still off. Replace the plug or hose and put in a cooling system cleaner (prestone) and fill with water. Start the car and let run for until it reaches a normal running temp, keep running for 5 min. urn engine off, let it cool and drain water. I then flush it again with water to remove any rust or gunk left in. I do this until I see good clear water running out. Reinstall your plug or hose and fill with (anti-freeze) be sure to get the right anti-freeze, some take a different color. If you use 50/50, it will take 3-4 to fill or 1 straight anti-freeze with mixture of water until full. Good luck

How to change/flush coolant on a 2003 jetta

Slap on those vinyl gloves because the ethylene glycol in antifreeze can cause skin damage - however we recommend this because the antifreeze feels like engine oil. With your catch pan in place, remove the radiator drain plug and collect all old coolant. Immediately dispose of the coolant as required by environmental laws - if you are to surrender the old coolant at a waste management facility, be sure you use containers which can be properly sealed to avoid spillage, etc.To expedite the draining process, remove your radiator fill cap to allow air to enter the system.
Also be sure to remove all coolant from your radiator reservoir. We suggest you use the gravity siphon trick - just be sure not to ingest any coolant.

    figure 4
Watch the old coolant as it exits the system - this will give you a good idea of your vehicle's cooling system condition. If you see metal flakes, oily surface, white flakes, etc .. you can make a diagnosis of your engine's coolant system.
Essentially, if you see anything but coolant and some very minor debris, it can indicate the early signs of cooling system failure. When all coolant has been drained from the radiator, replace the radiator drain plug and then fill the system with plain tap water to dilute remaining antifreeze in the engine block.
With the cooling system refilled with tap water, replace the radiator fill cap and run the engine allowing it to reach operating temperature. When the engine's cooling fan turns on, it is an indication that the vehicle's thermostat has opened, allowing the freshly added water to circulate through the engine thus diluting the remaining coolant. Allow the engine to run for a few minutes before shutting it off.
At this point, you can either wait until the engine cools off, or take fate in your own hands and continue the flushing process.Repeat the draining process being sure to once again collect and dispose of all waste coolant.
At this point, if you have opted to purchase a radiator flush kit, you should refill the cooling system with tap water and add the caustic fluid as directed.
Run the engine for as long as the radiator flush kit calls for (usually less than 10 minutes).

    [click for larger image]
    figure 8
Once again, drain the cooling system, collecting all waste fluid. This is the last time you will be required to collect engine coolant during this process. Now that the cooling system is empty, replace the radiator drain plug and refill the cooling system with distilled water only. The reason that you should only use distilled water at this point is to avoid mineral deposits which will deteriorate your cooling system over time.
Once the cooling system has been completely filled, start the engine to allow the water to circulate. Once again remove the radiator drain plug. As the engine runs, pour fresh distilled water into the radiator fill hole at the same rate that it exits the system.Continue this process until the water being drained from the radiator appears to be clear and free of debris. Once you are satisfied with the drain water's appearance, stop the engine and allow all remaining water to drain out.Replace the radiator drain plug and prepare to mix your distilled water and coolant.
Be sure to mix your coolant to the ratio recommended by your manufacturer. In most cases, the ratio is 50% distilled water and 50% coolant.
As a tip, mix the coolant and water in a third container being sure to observe the proper ratio. As you mix your water and coolant, use your hydrometer to measure the specific gravity - this will give you a good idea of whether or not you are mixing the coolant and water properly.
Once you have mixed enough coolant and water to fill your engine's coolant system entirely, grab a funnel and place it in the radiator fill hole.Fill your radiator at a rate of no more than:
    { 1 L/min. \ 1.1 US qt./min. \ 0.9 Imp. qt./min. }.
Continue the filling process until the coolant reaches the bottom of the fill neck. Now fill the radiator reservoir to the full mark.
With the radiator fill cap still off, start the car and allow it to idle. As the engine runs, continue to add coolant as air escapes the engine and cooling system. As you top up the radiator, be sure to "burp" the cooling system by firmly squeezing the radiator hoses (both upper and lower). Continue to squeeze and release the hoses to help push any errant air bubbles out of the system.
Once you are unable to fill the radiator any further, replace the radiator fill cap and stop the engine - you are finished.

    Replacing fluids 0n 1996 300zx

radiator antifreeze: open drain **** on radiator and drain refill with water re plug and leave radiator cap off. start vehicle. watch when coolant drops or rises drastically as that is the thermostat opening. at that time re open drain **** and fill radiator with hose water at the same time. when water coming out is completely clear again turn vehicle off and drain radiator again. fill with antifreeze and water mix. 50/50

oil: jack up car, find oil plug, directly behind steering rack on oil pan. undo plug and drain oil into container. while oil is draining remove oil filter. wait for oil to drain completely then re-install drain plug and new oil filter(filled with oil) undo oil cap and pour in oil 4.5 quarts on n/a and 5 for turbo. tighten cap and your done.

brake system: dont attempt, use an experienced mechanic as the lines need to be bled in numerous places including inside the car from the abs module mounted behind the passenger seat.
easy brake system: individually bleed brakes while adding fluid until clear fluid comes out. (not efficient)

a/c: do not attempt unless you have an evac pump for ac systems.

clutch: same as easy brake except using the bleed valves at the slave cylinder and on passenger side fender well.

washer fluid: add fluid and squirt a little to make sure there is no air in the line
