Question about 1992 Jeep Cherokee Briarwood

1 Answer

Transmission Troubleshooting 1992 Jeep Cherokee Laredo 4x4. Going down the road it runs fine. If you let off the gas it goes back to 1st or 2nd gear. Then when you push the gas again....You have to go to about 4,500 RPMS just for the transmission to change gears again. Into the proper gear.

Check the trans fluid level first. To do this have the car running at operating temp check the level if low adjust to proper level and recheck. If thats not it I will help u trouble shoot it further. Sounds like a bad torque converter.

What are the symptoms of a speed sensor going bad on a 1997 jeep grand cherokee laredo 6 cyl.

Since alot of things rely on data from the speed sensor you will "usually" get an ABS alarm, little or no shifting,no indication of speed on the speedometer, and the check engine light. without the abs light and with a speed indicated I would lean toward a transmission problem

2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee, automatic,4.0, 4x4, - Makes a jerking motion almost as if it goes out of gear for 2 seconds and kicks back in). But it only does it on SHARP left hand turns only. It changes gears...

Check your transmission fluid level. If the unit is low, the oil sloshes away from the pickup and a burp of air runs through the unit causing momentary slippage. if you go around the same turn slower that doesn't happen. In rare cases an internal shaft bushing or seal can be bad and the shaft can move having the same result...but as I said, that's rare.

No 1st gear

You should check oils for water in: engine, diffs, transfer case and transmission. To sure that oils are not cloudy in color due to water contamination. It would be a good idea to change these any way to eliminate any possible problems in the future. Four wheel drive vehicles are meant for roads and are not considered and amphibious vehicle, you have vent tubes in all of the above mentioned .
Hope this helps you!

Shifting lever doesnt lock

Likely the shift detent mechanism is broken. It's inside the unit and can be reached by removing the trans pan. It should be just inside where the shift lever goes through the case.

5th. Gear

Sounds like you may have bent a shift fork or your cluster gear has some missing teeth on it now. I would venture to say that is it a bent shift fork. This will require the transmission be removed to gain access to inspect and repair.

Inconsistant transmission problems on 2003 jeep gcl

Many times this is caused by either a sticking electronic shift solenoid in the transmission or the trans fluid and filter need to be replaced, has the trans been serviced, it should have been done at 60,000 miles.
