There should be a low pressure switch located on one of the metal a/c lines. It probably has 2 wires. Sometimes it is necessary to 'jump' across this switch to complete the circuit to the compressor until it starts to accept freon and build pressure. This is a safty feature designed to prevent the compressor from locking up due to the absence of oil, which is carried by the freon. Good luck. Dave

Some compressors will shut off when gas is low to avoid damage..

Or it could be the compressor went..

How do i replace the air conditioner coolant?

Buy R134a refill kit from parts store or WalMart. Pressure connection is on passenger side near the A/C drier which looks like an aluminum cylinder about 6or 7 inches high. The kit comes with a gauge and refill instructions, you will hook the gauge up to the port there in the coolant tube (remove the black cap to expose port) and the coolant canister screws into the gauge. Follw refill instructions for reading the gauge, etc. The motor must be running with A/C turned on Max cool with temp setting all the way to cold.

How to refill the ac coolant on a 1998 gmc jimmy

You can go to your local automotive store and ask which kind of refridgerant you need (Example. R-134a). Once you know this they should give you a can and the instructions will be on it to tell you how to do it! Please be careful and wear rubber nitrile gloves, eye protection and ear protection (compressed air gets noisy if it slips).

All heat no freash air or air con.

you may have a broken door in to the housing, blocking the cool air and allowing just the flow of hat air

Try checking the fuse's, if the fuse's are good it could be a bad blower motor.

I have a 1998 gmc jimmy 4x4. Have been driving it for a little over 3 years now. I have a couple problems... The air conditioning system quit working 2 summers ago when it got really super hot out and...

I am experiencing the same problem with my 98' GMC Jimmy. I have a small leak in the A/C compressor, so I have to refill it with freon at the beginning of every summer. Also when shifting out of 4HI to 2HI it has a hard time, and in fact make a whining sound when I'm de-accelerating. I think the cause of this is my transfer case motor, but I'm not sure. Can anyone confirm this?
