I have a similar issue, I strugle with 2nd and reverse and just had a clutch fitted. I was advised by Mitsubishi that there are plastic guides on the selector shaft that wear causing the problems we both have but then again the Mitsi GTO's are renound for soft gearboxes. gonna try the plastic bits first... Fingers crossed i dont have to shell out for a box.... boo hoo . Will let you know how i get on BTW mine is a *** import Z16a chassis 4wd 4ws on a 1991 mk1

Drain your transmission fluid (24mm drain plug) and refill with a GL4 rated transmission oil such as REDLINE MTL or MT90 (filler plug is the 17mm nut on the front of the transmission). 3000gts have copper synchro mesh plates that are eaten up by regular transmission fluid. When you drain your fluid, check to look for metallic particles, you are probably destroying your synchro mesh. Change fluid and run it in.

the selecter rods are not in the right position you may have turned gearbox drive shaft when locating new clutch sorry your going to have to take selecter mechanism off and by a bit of trial and error reposition until you can select all gears

Problems selecting 1st gear peugeot 106 1.1 zest

If the clutch is a problem you will have difficulty selecting 1st only as the gears would be spinning from the engine revs.. I would say that the front input shaft (clutch shaft) bearing is failing allowing miss alignment of the synchros and not allowing proper engagement of the gears synchro rings. It means removal and repair to the gear box so the clutch can be inspected while the box is out.

2003 Dodge Neon....difficulty shifting, car shakes, cost to repair clutch? only 47,000 miles!

Sounds like you have clutch problems, this can be the hydraulic release system or the clutch plate that is defective, only a trained technician can tell the difference. Most shops will do a preliminary diagnostic for free.

I have a Volvo S40 2.0 diesel manual and have difficulty in selecting reverse gear from cold. The vehicle has done 36000 miles only

clutch hydraulics should be ok could be clutch plate sticking on input shaft splines i would drain and refill gearbox with correct grade of oil then try it try putting clutch down wait a few seconds before selecting reverse see if this helps you

Difficulty changing from 1st to 2nd in my 4x4

Tarpgrove:

Does the car grind when you put it into reverse? If so, the clutch is not fully disengaging and needs to be most likely bled or adjusted. It Is the clutch hydraulic oil they changed, correct?

If it does not grind when putting into reverse, I would ask the shop that did the clutch if they changed the fluid in the trans. And if so, what fluid they used. Check your owners manual for the correct fluid specification.

Also if your clutch was replaced because it was dragging, not because of slipping, you may have done some damage to 2ed gear synchronizer causing this problem as well.

Regards and and good luck.

Sounds like air has gotten into the hydraulic clutch system, or it is low on fluid from a failed master or slave hydraulic clutch cylinder or connecting line between the master and slave cylinders.

Problems with gear box

Hi

If the clutch feels ok and isn't biting right at the bottom or right at the top then it sounds like its time for a recon or 2nd hand gearbox to be fitted.

I recently fitted a 2nd gearbox to a seat ibiza GTi which actually has the 2.0 Golf engine fitted to it and it wasn't too bad at all, but it is adviseable to fit a clutch kit whilst the box is off.

Very best regards
