Question about GMC Jimmy

1 Answer

My 1999 GMC Jimmy SLT has developed a problem. It's a 4.3L 6 cylinder, 4WD and has 112,000 miles. When the air conditioner is running the engine strains on acceleration (like at a stoplight) and sounds as if it's not changing gears appropriately. If I turn the air conditioner off in a minute or so the problem disappears and the transmission changes gears normally and accelerates properly. Any ideas?

ELECTRICAL PROBLEM, START WITH CHECKING VOLTAGE AT COMPRESSOR & GENERATOR (ALTERNATOR). IT IS NOT GETTING ENOUGH CURRENT TO CYCLE WHILE MOVING and taking the current away from everything else. ANY MORE QUESTIONS CONTACT ME AT chevy4x4k1500@aol.com

Does a 1997 Gmc jimmy have back bums or pads

You mean drums? Depends on the vehicle options but should be rotors/pads. Easy to check - look through the wheel spokes and if pads, you should see the rotor.

My service engine light on my 99 gmc SLT jimmy came on but my engine is not making any loud noise. What else could be the problem?

Have a shop do a smoke test on the vapor line between the engine and vapor canistor. Mine was full of holes, same year as yours.

Can driving a 1999 gmc jimmy with 4wd in 4low range over 55 mph on the highway damage the engine

Yes i can, your engine may slip a bearing causing you to loose your engine. The other thing also is that the oil can not cool down your transfer case fast enough causing the bearing inside the transfer case to fail.
Try to gate your 4WD repaired soon if it's tuck in 4wd low. Keep me posted if that is the case and be happy to help you get your Blazer running 100% again soon.
