No codes... I have had the transmission fluid changed, oil changed, coolant changed, fuel filter changed,. I had a similar problem last year when my valve cover gasket was leaking, but there is no oil on the spark plugs this time. A friend said possible a fuel pump?

Most likely it a broken or malfunctioning clock spring in your steering column
or
Could be: kink in throttle cable. Remember there's two. One for you, and one for the cruise. Make sure there's no abrupt bends or curves.
Could be: corroded throttle cable, (sticking). Replace.
Could be: defective throttle cable. Replace.
Or, could be: broken, loose and/or defective throttle return spring. Make sure the anchor point of spring is in place. The sping is located on the throttle body itself (coiled type) and must not spin around, but be held in place at one end.
Maybe it's a problem with the throttle plate sticking in the bore of the throttle body. Tricky fix. Probably best to remove and renew the componet, otherwise the problem, that is if this is the problem, might come back. Remove the air-intake snorkle and visually inspect that the throttle plate opens and closes with no indication of binding whatsoever. Ah, do this with the engine off. Open the plate all the way and rub your finger on the bore of the throat. It must be smooth, with no ridge nor pits, scratches and what not.
Could be: idle air control motor needs cleaning or replacemnet. Possibly sticking open, but I doubt it.
If the engine is suffering from a vacuum leak, this could be the reason for a fast idle. From your discription of the complant I would say that said leak would have to be of considerable size. Check brake booster line. PCV hose.
Could be: linkage under dash to gas pedal. Binding? Bent? How's the throttle cable look going through the firewall?
During normal operation, with no problems, the car's computer will increase the engine idle speed during cold starts to allow for faster warm-ups. I'm not sure, but I think this is a timed event, programed to last less than 60 seconds by the engine management computer. Or by Coolant Temp. Sensor (CTS) readings. Service Engine light on? Check for trouble codes. If the CTS is defective the engine will remain in Open Loop and possibly not stabalize to a normal idle rpm. When you do start it up cold, does it idle fast then drop? If the above mentioned possible reasons have been exhausted, explore engine management systems, i.e. defective computer. Probably not though.
Cold be: defect in the mechanical aspects of the cruise control. Linkage, cable, chains. Vacuum motor binding. May not be allowing the throttle to close properly.
check them 1 by 1.
Please do rate the solution. Thank you for using fixya.keep updated. thanks

I have a 2001 lincoln ls v8 with a very ruff idle and a knock in passenger side of moter plus a number 2 and 4 cylinder misfire code the combustion in my motor is good ?? Any ideas

rectify the sensors/ injectors that may be causing the problem. check correct plug wiring and separate any leads touching each other as this will cause wrong sparking at the wrong time causing detonation and knocking. It will also account for the bad idle.

What's the cylinder numbers on a 2002 lincoln ls

1,2,3
4,5,6 V6

1,2,3,4

Spark Plug is not what causes a misfire, if you have PO303
Bad COP Coil & maybe not the same cyl as the code

Lincoln 2002 LS has low power at higher speeds and wants to turn off at idle. Also shakes a little at idle. Could it be miss firing?

The EGR Valve could be an issue

Almost certain you will have 1 or 2 bad cop
ignition coils a year,so misfire ,yes

Could be several other problems

Need the correct spark plugs, they are special
to the LS,anything will fit,but not work right

O2 Sensors have to get changed at 100,000 miles

MAF Sensor Cleaned

V6 or V8

V8 is a lot easier to work on & less issues

My cruise control doesn't work??...any

jnjkingbird, It sounds like this problem is the clock spring as I don't believe that the horn and the cruise control would share a fuse. However, they do share a circuit in the clock-spring. You can check for power at each unit (horn and the cruise control) which would confirm this. Check each fuse as well. Good luck with this.

2005 Lincoln LS V8. When cruising on highway and/or when cruising and I let up a little on gas the car will buck a little almost like it is shutting off for a split second. I am pretty sure it does it at...

EGR Valve-is where I would start.
Remove and plug the vacuum hoses to it,
road test,problem solved,replaced EGR

After that, expect to loose 1 or 2 COP Ignition Coils a year
Any MIL Lamp on dash, you retrieve the code and go from there
Any PO301 thru PO308 if you have a V8 is a coil misfire
very, very common on the LS and most fords back to 1998
with coil-on-plug

Next clean the throttle plate and MAF Sensor
CRC Throttle Body Cleaner & CRC MAF Sensor Cleaner

Next TPS-throttle position sensor gets tested

I hope you have changed the spark plugs every
three years,regardless of milage,they are a special
NGK Plug just for the LS

Also you have to use premium fuel, sorry in an LS

When you get a coil misfire, the PCM starts to cut
injector timing and you get just what you discribed

Spark plug locations

If the car is missfireing, don't try to patch it one plug at a time. go ahead and replace them all at once. It will save you 5 more cylenders to hunt later.
