Question about 1995 Mercury Villager

1 Answer

1997 Mercury villager left headlight doesn't work.

Left headlight doesn't work. Replaced bulb, still doesn't work. All fuses checked good. Swapped left and right headlamp and left still doesn't work. Bright lights do not work on either side but right headlight stays in dim position when turn signal is pushed forward in the bright light position. Both lights will come on if you pull the turn signal position backwards like you would do when you flash your lights.

Go here. we can help you. Also, did you check the headlamp relay in the box under the hood? One relay is in box in front of battery, other is in narrow box along passenger side fender under the hood. swap left & rt headlamp relays to see if it changes.

If you checked for power inside the socket(power and ground) the bend the tabs in the socket to touch the bulb wires. They get hot and bend. pull them out a bit.

Check the socket or connections that supply power to the bulb Sometimes the contacts can become corroded. Also, a loose or corroded ground wire can cause a bulb to not work or glow dimly.

Why would running lamps quit, left headlight is very dim DRL light on dash flashing?

Have your alternator checked yet? Your alternator is what actually powers all of your devices and lights when the car is running. When it is failing it will cause lights to dim. Checking connections, fuses and your alternator should lead you to a good start! Good luck!

Left low beam is inoperative. Replaced both bulbs,

I had the same problem with my 2001 Forester. Try this as a low-cost and easy repair attempt: buy brand new fuses and replace both L/H and R/H fuses. If one of your fuses is marginal, your headlights will exhibit this problem. Replacing my headlight fuses with brand new ones solved my situation.

Daytime running lights

check the headlamp relays in the fuse/relay box under the hood. There is one box in front of the battery and another one under the hood by the passeger side of engine comparment by fender. I believe the box cover will show what relays are in the box. Left & right have separate relays. Swap left & right headlapm relays and see if problem switches to other headlamp. If yes repalce bad relay.
Not likely DRL module.
Otherwise, need to check ground wire for this headlamp.

Mercury Villager headlight assembly diagaram for removal

This is easy. Lift the lid open. Look at the back of the sealed beam and you will see a clip and an o ring. Pull the clip up and pull wires back toward the driver's seat. Unscrew the o ring and firmly pull the bulb out toward the driver again. Note the 3 tabs on the bulb seat and realign the new bulb with those tab ( 2 bottom, 1 top). Replace with #9007 bulbs..do them both.
