It's in the fuel tank. Part of the float/pump assembly.
Most instructions say to drop the tank, but I found it to be much easier to remove the bed. Which will fully expose the top of the tank allowing easy access to the filter/float/pump part that you'll need to replace. Expect to spend well over $100.00 for this part. GL

GM used to put them on the frame rail under the truck, I understand that 04 and newer the filter is in the tank as part of the pump assembly.

Ran out of diesel, added diesel but now it wont start 2007 Chev 2500

Hello and welcome. you will have to perform the bleed procedure using the fuel prime on the fuel filter housing. there is a pump on top of the fuel filter assembly, on the passenger side of engine.

Open the vent valve screw (1) by turning the screw counterclockwise several full turns.

Operate the priming pump (1) by repeatedly pumping until a small amount of fuel seeps from the vent valve. Allow the pump to fully return upward between pumps. When fuel is present, the filter is full of fuel and the system is primed.
Close the vent valve screw.
