Question about 1998 Ford Escort
Hi I am Vortash if this is what we call a safe head meaning the Pistons do not meet the valves .. then all you require is a new belt and a keen eye to find the timing marks a haynes manual will help you there .. But I dont think this vehicle is a safe head and if the timing belt has gone you could be looking at least a grand in uk money to fix it .. i think thats about two thousand dolllars a 1998 escort can be purchased over here for around £300 so would probably be scrapped however if you repaired it yourself then you are looking at about £200 thats about $400 sorry to be the bearer of bad news hope you manage to find out it's not the belt but something else to find out just remove the top timing belt cover and pray .. regards Vortash
